Parisians piled on to trains in an exodus from the French capital today hours before a third of the country is plunged into a new month-long lockdown.
Trains heading west to Brittany and south to Lyon were fully booked on Friday with platforms packed at the Gare Montparnasse as 12million people in the Paris region brace for the new restrictions.
French PM Jean Castex announced the new measures last night amid a third wave of Covid-19 cases which has thrown Paris hospitals into crisis, with vaccines coming too slowly to protect large chunks of the population.

Poor, poor Parisians. They must be looking back to the good old days of the Nazi occupation where the Nazis were nowhere as strict.
Anyone wonder why not is, the world is doing all these actions, over a virus which while serious, is not fatal in the vast majority of cases? This virus is not the return of the Bubonic plague from medieval Europe.
The collateral damage is immense from these restrictions we have seen governments impose on people.

Well that is why some Parisian boulevards are tree lined. So the German army does not have to March in the sun.
It is important, I think, for us to realize that we in America are not alone when it comes to the draconian measures (taken in some states, but happily for me, not mine) on the population. Most of Europe (again, not all) has seen much worse. And apparently it’s not getting better.
Macron only had to declare that March is the month of August and all the Parisians would leave anyway.
Mostly agree, however I think that in the next few months we will see regions go de-facto autonomous and while it will be less than pleasant (limited imports, shortages) they will survive ok.
Then when the leftist servants of our overlords realize how much better some places are doing shit will get spicy.
