UAW Warns Workers Ford Plans to Move Project Worth $900 Million From Ohio to Mexico
Epoch Times ^ | March 18, 2021 | JACK PHILLIPS

Posted on 03/18/2021 11:08:01 AM PDT by gattaca

The United Auto Workers (UAW) union said that Ford Motor Co.’s plan to build a new vehicle in Mexico instead of Ohio might be a violation of the auto manufacturer’s contractual commitments.

“We 100 percent reject the company’s decision to put corporate greed and more potential profits over American jobs and the future of our members. We expect the company to honor its contractual commitments to this membership and when it fails to do so we will take action,” UAW Vice President Gerald Kariem said. “We are intensely exploring our options at this time,” he added.

In the letter, Kariem said Ford in 2019 committed $900 million for a plant in Avon Lake, Ohio (OHAP), and would include a next-generation Ford model to be added to the production lines in 2023. That would have secured “employment well into the foreseeable future” for auto workers but he blasted Ford for not “honor[ing] its promise.”

“Ford management expects us to just hang our heads and accept the decision,” Kariem wrote in a letter, which was dated March 12. “But let me be clear, we are making a different choice.”

Ford plant manager Jason Moore issued a letter to Avon Lake workers after UAW’s letter and said the conditions surrounding the expansion at the Ohio plant had changed. The 2019 agreement included a “reference to a $900 million investment and a new product for OHAP,” the letter stated. Moore said that the firm is investing in the plant and will increase Super Duty truck production there.

“While conditions upon which the 2019 Administrative Letter were based have changed, the Company is investing in the plant and increasing production of Super Duty trucks at OHAP,” Moore wrote.

Reuters reported that in November, Ford said it intended to produce another electric vehicle model in Cuautitlan, Mexico, as well as the Mustang Mach-E.

And Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker did not say whether Ford would keep its agreement to invest in the Ohio plant.

“We are always looking at our options,” Felker told the Detroit Free Press. “We still plan to invest $6 billion and create and retain 8,500 jobs in America during the course of this four-year contract,” she said. “We are invested in [the] Ohio Assembly Plant and our dedicated workforce there.”

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) criticized Ford’s decision.

“In 2019, Ford made a commitment to invest $900 million at its Avon Lake, OH plant – NOW, it’s reportedly moving the entire project to … Mexico,” he wrote on Twitter this week. “This is unacceptable. At today’s Senate Finance Committee hearing, I called on Ford to keep its promise to Ohio workers.”

General Motors in 2019 stopped production of the Chevrolet Cruze at a factory in Lordstown, Ohio, which impacted hundreds of jobs in the area.

President Joe Biden, whom the UAW endorsed for president in 2020, has reportedly sought to focus on American car manufacturing as part of his plan to create new car industry jobs.

The Epoch Times has contacted Ford for comment. It’s not clear what vehicle Ford is planning to manufacture in Mexico.

Another one falls..
Avon Lake...at one time a productive, quality oriented workforce..
Due to the fall of lorain assembly, and it’s militant workforce, the militant lorain workers pushed out the good ones at Avon Lake, and Avon Lake became the most militant workforce in the company..

No sympathy here... The workforce destroyed lorain, and now Avon Lake..

Lordstown, hamtramack, avon lake...

The militant are going to fall..

But, blame it on the company.

Dumb shits, killing the golden goose

And all the electronics are made in China or Taiwan or Japan and elsewhere. US cars are just assembled here with parts from other countries.

"If my business had to deal with the UAW, I’d move it to Mexico, too."

If only we could talk the teacher's union into moving to Mexico.. I think we would be far better off without those commie son-of-a-guns..

Could another mitigating factor be the inconsistency of US Labor Policy?
(PS Are UAW wages pegged to Minimum wage, as in they will go up to scale of the increase?)

Democrats drive automakers out of the country. Trump brings them back. Democrats drive automakers out of the country. Union blames automakers.

Plus the junta has dropped Trump’s restrictions on H1B visas, aided and abetted by stinking Senate RINOs.

"It’s not clear what vehicle Ford is planning to manufacture in Mexico."

My guess is the "Maverick". Yes they bring that nameplate back as a lower cost 4 dr pickup based on Escape underpinnings as is the Sport Bronco and the Mach-E. But Ford has me flumoxed as of late, no correction pissed.

* They just floated 2 billion in commerical paper that is callable I think in 5 yrs if the Stock is > $17.29 a share. This I don't get at all but let that go.
* This shafting to American Workers. From what I hear the Mexico Division is pretty professional, nothing against them, but heck, you couldn't do it here instead of the insane amount of $ your spending on the E-150 plant? Seriously like 2 billion?
* Their Solid State Battery play, they haven't announced a partner. GM & Honda, Ion-Power, VW initially a Canadian firm to improve existing batteries then QuantumScape. Toyota, a home spun Solid State Battery. But Ford? They have given $ to Solid Power, but have a tech-exchange program w/ VW so Solid Power or QuantumScape or both?

My point is they are getting a little flighty for me, grow a pair and fix this guys, or bring Mulally back...

Export American jobs to Mexico
Import Mexicans to America

..kill the jobs on Keystone
dont' renew 80 million acre offshore leases and kill the offshore jobs in the Gulf
keep small businesses closed with the covid excuse
raise taxes
remove the 2nd amendment (HR127)
see the pattern?
going back to the land owners and the serfs...the haves and the have nots...it's sickening...3.5 more years of this shit (biden won't be there, and harris is quistionable on eligibility), and then we can have another fraud election..

Having served a 15 year sentence in Detroit as a first tier supplier to GM and Ford, I have absolutely no sympathy for the UAW. Salaried guys in GM told me that the acronym actually stands for United Against Work. A corrupt and worthless gang of rent-seekers if ever I saw one.

I believe God is still in control, and I believe God has had Trump's back from the get go.

God loves the USA for our honor to missionaries around the globe and not so much for what Satan has been able to accomplish "in our name"

IF we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9

There's still a remnant and with God, all things are possible.
