Eight people were killed in a series of shootings at massage parlors in the Atlanta area on Tuesday, including six Asian women, raising concerns that the crimes were racially motivated. While police are still investigating a connection and motivation, the attacks shook the Asian American and Pacific Islander community, which has been targeted in a surge of hate crimes.
Online, the hashtags “#AsianLivesMatter,” modeled after the Black Lives Matter movement, and variations of “#StopAsianHate” were trending as many members of the community spoke out against racism. Other people of color, including Black activists, joined them in solidarity against white supremacist rhetoric that has spiked in the last year.

Last night's shooting & the appalling rise of anti-Asian violence stem frm a sick society where nationalism has again been stoked & normalized. Anti-Black & anti-Asian racism & violence run in tandem in the U.S. Both grps were brought here for labor but never meant to be citizens — Ida Bae Wells (@nhannahjones) March 17, 2021
Locking arms with Asian Americans facing this lethal wave of anti-Asian terror. Their struggle is my struggle. Our struggle is against racism and White supremacist domestic terror. https://t.co/CGFpdk4K9t — Ibram X. Kendi (@DrIbram) March 17, 2021
The rise in hate crimes against Asian-Americans is recent since the start of COVID, but the marginalization is embedded in this country’s history — joon (@joonlee) March 17, 2021

[Excerpt:]
“...the suspect claimed his goal was to eliminate temptation.
Long claimed to have a ‘sex addiction,’ investigators said during a Wednesday morning press conference.
‘He sees these locations as… a temptation for him that he wanted to eliminate,’ Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office Captain Jay Baker said.
[...]
Baker said officials asked Long directly if he had racist motives, and Long denied this. However, the investigation continues to determine an official motive in the case, officials said, emphasizing they are ‘very early’ in the investigation. Long took responsibility for the shooting, officials said.”

“Two senior law enforcement officials briefed on the matter tell NBC News that the gun Long used in yesterday’s shooting spree was purchased legally and it was purchased yesterday prior to the shooting.
Georgia law enforcement officials said they were confident it was a 9mm handgun that was used in the shooting and that it was the only handgun they have found so far.”

Asian Wives Matter
“Asian lives matter,” until they get rejected by a college to make room for a lower-scoring black student.
BLM has in the past had a harsh response to any entity or group trying to co opt the ....Lives matter mantra. This could get interesting
The idea that every member of a racial group is jointly responsible for the insane acts of one member of their group seems absurd to me. The stated motivation here is similar to the “incel” mass murder in Toronto where a young man deliberately ran over female pedestrians, running up a similar death toll (ten IIRC). In that case the young man was not quite “white” enough to get tagged and the victims were mostly white, so the media left race out of their coverage and concentrated on the mental health aspects, which is exactly how they should be covering this case too.
I’m not responsible for every mad act of white people, men in general, people my age, people my height, golfers (since I golf), or harpsichordists (not likely to be an issue but advance notice, not going to take the fall for other harpsichordists). Sorry groupthinkers of the left, I don’t care about your banalysis, if Joe Blow from Kokomo whom I never met goes off the deep end, that is all on him and not on me. I’ll own up to what I do and that’s how blind justice works.
Excellent point. I remember them complaining about not using the correct hashtags at times. It’ll be interesting to see how they react to this.
Where was this movement when Asians were being routinely assaulted by blacks?
They’re in for a big surprise when they find out what ethnic group actually kills most Asians. Hint: it ain’t whites.
Where were all these idiots when BLACK FOLK were killing Asians?
Got your hashtag hanging.
Maybe if Communist China hadn’t released a bio-weapon that killed nearly 600,000 Americans and destroyed the livelihoods of some 80 million...
We should have rounded all Communist Chinese non-citizens all back up and shipped them straight back to Wuhan.
Wait for it. As Indians further dominate the white-collar industry in the US, a ‘Falling Down” moment is coming with them as well.
Americans are flat fed up with losing jobs, livelihoods and everything else, while all decent jobs are reserved for them.
Around 30 years ago an Iranian student took a bunch of white girls hostage in a bar near UC Berkeley, and murdered two of them because he had been rejected by other white girls.
Whackos come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Attributing a whacko’s actions to anything but insanity is pure political pandering.
