Standard, but effective. As people who aren't teens or twentysomething, I'm afraid we may not have the appropriate understanding of how these kinds of social media hashtag campaigns shape public opinion. They're effective, I'm sad to say.

As my own kids explain to me, there's pressure applied to repeat these kinds of campaign lest being targeted yourself as a 'hater.' In this age cohort, no one - particularly those on high school or college campuses - would dare offer a comment that isn't in lockstep with the meme because doing so, risks a real chance of being ejected from clubs, sports teams or even school

I think this social media business would even make Orwell blush.
