I was a Bernie fan, but Biden’s policies have impressed me. Still, I’m not hailing him as a ‘transformational’ leader just yet
K, fine, I was wrong. But, in this case, I’m very happy to be wrong: it seems that Joe Biden may be shaping up to be a progressive president after all. I supported Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primaries, but I can now see that Biden was the better choice.
When Biden announced he was running for president, I was dismayed. I thought he was Hillary Clinton 2.0 and we were going to see a repeat of 2016. (And I maintain that, had it not been for the pandemic, which changed everything, then it probably would have been.) Then, when Trump lost, I was relieved but not exactly thrilled by the prospect of a Biden presidency. He largely campaigned on a platform of returning the US to “business as usual” – but business as usual just wasn’t working for most people.
Instead of simply turning back the clock four years, however, Biden has been pushing forward undeniably progressive policies. The $1.9tn pandemic relief bill that just passed is expected to reduce US poverty in 2021 by more than a third. And many of its provisions won’t be temporary: the Biden administration has indicated that it will aim to make permanent the increase in child credits contained in the bill, which could cut child poverty in half.
How is all this going to be paid for? Partly by – get this – taxing the rich. Biden’s next big move may be the first major federal tax hike since 1993. The White House is expected to propose raising the corporate tax rate, increasing capital gains tax for people earning more than $1m annually, and raising income tax for those earning more

Tax the rich, and watch the rich move their money out of the country. It will be fun.
Biden has no idea what he is...
His handlers, however, know how to make him what they want.
Why is this garbage being posted? We know the Guardian is progressive already.
Clueless; This isn't Biden. It's probably team Obama, Valerie Jarret etc

Which Depression-Era bank-robber was it who, when asked "Why do you rob banks" replied, "Because that's where the money is!"?
That's why Liberals and Leftists always want to tax the rich - because the rich are the productive ones.
Regards,
Senile much?
The problem with Biden’s policies is that they are killing jobs. Everything from killing energy jobs to letting immigrants in to compete, to taxing the rich that create jobs are all bad for the economy.
Trump’s policies were much better. Raise tariffs, return production to the US, limit immigration and put Americans back to work.
In the words of Ben Franklin, a hand up is better than a hand out.
The hand outs are not sustainable. Neither are Biden’s policies. Biden will make us all poor.
Biden isn’t aware of the flavor of oatmeal they spoon feed him for breakfast.
He has 0 input on any policies.
Is this so called writer an American citizen?
He’s not a progressive. He’s either addled-minded like the German Chancellor was or he’s only interested in acquiring a world of wealth, regardless of what happens to his countrymen.
President ZhoBaiDin: Fully compromised and controlled by Beijing. “They’re not bad folks, folks....”
“make permanent the increase in contained in the bill”
States should tax these child credits to fund K-12 schools.
The really rich are rich mainly because of overpriced common stocks.
The American middle class has only modest means to buy those stocks and their high P/E limits their desirability.
Biden is whatever his puppetmasters direct him to be.
“Tax the rich, and watch the rich move their money out of the country. It will be fun.”
Does Bezos even have $1 billion in cash?
Bezos simply could change his business model as a trans-Pacific merchant in the employ of say Grand Cayman Chinese Export Merchant Ltd.
I don't know whether to be more alarmed that:
Or both.
