Rome (CNN)The Vatican said Monday that the Catholic Church would not bless same-sex unions, in a statement approved by Pope Francis that threatens to widen the chasm between the church and much of the LGBTQ community.
Explaining their decision in a lengthy note on Monday, the Holy See referred to homosexuality as a "choice," suggested it is sinful and said it "cannot be recognized as objectively ordered" to God's plans; a combative stance that is certain to disappoint millions of gay and lesbian Catholics around the world. "The blessing of homosexual unions cannot be considered licit," the Vatican's top doctrinal office, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, wrote in the statement.
God "does not and cannot bless sin," the statement added.
Pope Francis, who has frequently been praised for his welcoming tone towards LGBTQ people both within and outside the Church, approved the note.
The decision is a setback for Catholics who had hoped the institution would modernize its approach to homosexuality. Dozens of countries, include many in western Europe, have legalized same-sex marriages, and the Church's reticence to embrace LGBTQ people has long held the potential to alienate it from younger followers.
"It is not licit to impart a blessing on relationships or partnerships, even stable, that involve sexual activity outside of marriage, as is the case of the unions between persons of the same sex," the statement said.

Now it’s time for the Vatican to banish Fr. James Martin, the heretic.
Any Christian cleric that espouses the homosexual or abortion narrative is a devil inspired deceiver and heretic. St. Paul gives explicit warnings and instructions how to deal with such evil.
What? This honestly comes out of the blue. For years the Vatican was diminishing the church’s position on homosexuality so as to make it just a lifestyle choice. They even allowed local congregations to “do as they see fit” in this regard. So after wrecking havoc in the church forcing the believer to side with either Paul or this Pope-full-of #$@& we are to now conclude they have a position as just stated? Are they going to now excommunicate all the priests that have “come out?” Or ban members from the Eucharist who also came out as gay when the church was open to it? Or are we just to let this muddle about into just more theological nonsense which comes out of the Vatican these days. Oh yea, global warming is the sin of ... yada, Yada.
Crickets as to if the Church will ban abortion supporters and their ilk.
This is a welcome development and we should be grateful for it. Thank God for small favors from this pope.
I still wonder why they allow so many homosexuals and child molesters to be ordained.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
millions? Please...
Amen

Someone dug up some dirt on Francis.
>The decision is a setback for Catholics who had hoped the institution would modernize its approach to homosexuality.<
God’s word is 100% perfect and never needs to be “modernized”...although satan certainly tries thru his followers.
...modernized its approach...?
Must have been difficult for the Poope to accept.
How can bless something that doesn’t exist ?
Maybe it’s me... but I don’t trust this announcement
God “does not and cannot bless sin: He blesses sinful man, so that he may recognize that he is part of his plan of love and allow himself to be changed by him,”
The synergy of Theosis!
Keep a Good Lent!
Fer crap sake frank. Make up your mind will ya. Or are you to busy pushing the CLIMAGEDDON! line. Is grrrrreta in line for canonization?
Francis realized the Vatican was running low on funds.
