Representative Gerry Connolly (D-VA) proposed stripping J. Edgar Hoover's name from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) headquarters building in Washington, D.C,, and called him a "maligned character" with a history of racism, homophobia and misogyny.

FBI tapes and other types of information are of two types.
The first concerns his ties (knowing or unknowingly) to the Communist Party USA and his personal aide Jack O’Dell as being a top covert CPUSA leader as well as the most probable KGB asset Moscow had in the SCLC.
O’Dell was identified as far back as 1956 in a House Committee on Un-American Activities hearing entitled “Communist Activities in the South”, as a covert CP leader and one tactical organizing document the New Orleans Police seized from his apartment was a Soviet organizing manual that only key KGB assets might have had.
O’Dell stayed with Jesse Jackson in his Operation Breadbasket (after he left the SCLC where O’Dell also worked), then in Op. PUSH, and finally the Rainbow Coalition.
O’Dell was also Jackson’s key contact man with the PLO and Syria (esp. in the returning of US downed pilot Goodman from Syria).
The other FBI material on King related to at least one serious sexual liaison that had very serious career implications should it have become “widely known”. There were other hints at sexual indiscretions that the FBI also knew about and might have been the basis of the letter sent to King strongly suggesting that he resign from the SCLC.
Word was that Att. Gen. General Robert Kennedy protected Dr. King and knew all about O’Dell and the other affairs.
This is a clear-cut case of homophobia.
I can think of a few things to call it
Very late to this game but I just saw an interview with a former KGB spy, Jack Barsky.
He said the entire cross dressing story on Hoover was a disinformation propaganda lie by the KGB and he has read the top secret reports on it.
The problem is, and why our side is weakening without even knowing why, is we have been the target of subterfuge and espionage by communists since the 1930s. This went on for so long we now have a organic radical element of US origins that has recently been growing in leaps and bounds since the occupy wall street movement.
