The Tennessee State Senate unanimously passed the Lifetime Order of Protection Bill this week. The final vote will take place on Monday, March 15th on the House Floor.
This bill is to help prevent victims of violent crimes from being re-victimized.
My situation is only one example of why this legislation is needed here in TN. Unfortunately, there are other victims of horrific crimes in our state who need help also.
On April 2, 2009, my life was turned upside down. Completely Shattered. My husband Ben was murdered in front of me by a man who was stalking me. This man’s name is Hank Wise.

“there are no guarantees for safety, but at least victims will know that the Legislature, Judges and Law have our back.”
Is she really this naive? The mofo would have been EXECUTED if they had your back, never mind that he’s being released in 2028!! The very fact he IS being released proves THEY DO NOT CARE about you!
.......reality for this victim (a real one for a change) is that this man is mentally deranged and as he has proven he will kill due to his sickness for someone who rejects him.
So, a piece of paper and lazy public officials (rampant in the US) will not likely help her save her life. Only Mr. Smith & Wesson or Mr. Colt will!
I would consider moving far away and changing my name. That might help.
Once again...

You take someone’s life like this, you deserve to die. Soon!
This guy figured out a number of thing to pull this off. He
isn’t a simply mental case that would absolve him. He is
functional, and relatively smart. He’s not deserving of some
sort of allowance.
The man deserves to die.
Every day we see more evidence of our society breaking down.
This means you have to cut off everyone you know.
You won’t have any personal friends in town.
You won’t be with family on holidays.
The place you may have spent 40 years, would suddenly be off
limits to you.
Then the next guy comes along to fixate on her.
I understand your logic, but I wouldn’t do what you’re
suggesting.
“While it will be helpful to have this law, I encourage victims to have a backup plan for their safety. I personally choose to legally carry a gun for my own self defense. I carry it everyday and have had consistent training over the years. However, victims can choose for themselves what steps to take to best protect themselves. This is certainly an extra option. One I hope victims will take into consideration.”
Yes, he planned it. If he won’t (he will be) be after her, then he’ll find a new victim or six. No one will have her back 24/7/365. She’ll have to protect herself.
Even death sentences may not be carried out for 30+ years but at least they’re behind bars and not roaming the streets.
I agree, but death sentence need not more than three years for
appeal to protect death row people’s Constitutional rights.
I believe people should be able to appeal, but at some point
the relatives needs to see justice meted out.
And of course, victims like this woman deserve to be safe.
I would also consider locking and loading my firearm and leaving the front door unlocked. That might help as well.
Stalk him when he gets out.
Waste the POS.
Have an alibi backed by someone you can totally trust.
Sleep well at night.
Lifetime protection is nothing but allowing one person to brand another as an dangerous deviant with very little due process and the government will use that designation to strip Americans of their rights.
Wrong. This bill clearly states that the Lifetime Order of Protection can ONLY be taken out by the victim or victim’s family and it can only be against the CONVICTED violent offender of that victim (1st degree murder, 2nd degree murder, rape etc...)
