Stark County in Ohio rejected the purchase of more than 1,400 new Dominion Voting Systems machines after local residents rallied against them.
Following the 2020 general election, former President Donald Trump and his allies claimed Dominion machines altered votes despite audits and recounts in several states and counties that used the technology, allegations which have been denied by the company and roundly rejected by the courts.
Still, the effect of their campaign against the technology appears to be taking tangible form, as the Board of Stark County Commissioners voted on Wednesday to go through with a $6.45 million equipment order to replace its old hardware from the vendor, which would be partially covered by the state and trade-in value, rejecting a recommendation by the county's board of elections.
Constituents voicing issues with purchasing new Dominion machines "far exceeded the response any of us have received on any topic to come before our board," Commissioner Bill Smith said in February. Smith, along with Commissioners Janet Weir Creighton and Richard Regula, all Republicans, unanimously rejected the purchase of Dominion equipment.

Punch cards were cheap, effective and reliable.
Punch cards were a disaster and had to go. Al "Hanging Chad" Gore proved that.
However, no form of touch screen voting should be permitted. Period.
The best system is a paper ballot with "fill in the bubbles" voting.
They are easily machine-read for automated high speed tabulation, and provide a paper trail in the voter's own hand to litigate 'voter intent' for any disputed ballots.
Nothing else should be considered.
The only way you get hanging chads is to try to punch a stack of ballots at the same time.
When Nancy gets her new Voting Bill finished these machines will be everywhere and connected to Nancy’s Office so she can decide who wins
That's also how you get "dimpled chads." My home state of Michigan used punch cards for years and years, and I've used them many times in local, state, and national elections. We were always instructed to make sure that the chads were fully removed before turning in our cards for tabulation.
After the 2000 election, Michigan dumped punch cards and went to the "fill in the bubble" paper ballots, and I still think it is a superior system to punch cards. No specialized card holders are required, so the system more easily and cheaply scales up or down for different election cycles.
That's one drawback to touch screen voting: It doesn't scale up cheaply. It also doesn't catch incorrect programming, miscalibration of the touch screen, or the possibility of nefarious program code deliberately switching votes.
With a paper "fill in the bubble" ballot, no amount of computer hacking will alter the physical paper ballot when audited.
Good.
But this is going to support Dominion’s claim of damages in their lawsuits.
I hope discovery against Dominion goes well.
Home sweet home!!!
Following the 2020 general election, former President Donald Trump and his allies claimed Dominion machines altered votes despite audits and recounts in several states and counties that used the technology, allegations which have been denied by the company and roundly rejected by the courts.
Frankly, even without the accusations around this election, Texas’ evaluation provides more than sufficient reason not to use them.
The assertions that the allegations have been denied by the company and roundly rejected by the courts, are questionable.
First of all does it even have to be said that the company denied the allegations? That is a no-brainer.
The second statement regarding the rejection by the courts is rather superficial without looking at the substance of the court rejections.
Were the court cases rejected on procedural issues? How many court cases actually considered the evidence, deep forensic audits of the paper ballots, signature checks, forensic audits of the machines, eligibility of the voters, etc.?
Why did the State of Texas reject the use of the Dominion voting machines?
What about other states that found problems with the Dominion machines? Was there substance in the concerns and issues?
“Refusing to recognize that this election was safe, secure and accurate can be viewed as nothing less than attacking the peaceful transfer of power,”
Not really his place to say this since its a political statement. His concern should be 100% about getting _accurate_ voting to as many eligible people as possible. Not an easy thing to do when you are using a voting machine that doesn’t let you see how it works. This is the reason its called a black box voting machine. The outcome of that election is irrelevant to his position.
know how you fix the punch cards? Make the pin used to punch them about 1/2” longer and have a snap ring on it so that it snaps into place when a valid vote is recorded.
make the instructions clear that you need to snap the punch pin into place fully for the vote to be properly recorded. Use pictures.
“With a paper “fill in the bubble” ballot, no amount of computer hacking will alter the physical paper ballot when audited.”
You’re correct and I support this position 100%.
Every State should adopt these election reforms.
make the instructions clear that you need to snap the punch pin into place fully for the vote to be properly recorded. Use pictures.
Or dump them altogether. Like everybody did.
The problem isn't how long the pin of the stylus is, the problem is the plastic holder that the card slips into. It has little round guide holes to guide the stylus onto and through the proper punch out in the card, but the clear acrylic that the guide holes are drilled into (clear so you can insert the ballot that has the candidates' names, etc.) get worn over time and get rounded out, making the stylus to hole fit sloppy.
Also, you can put as many instructions and pictures on the card and in the booth as you like, it won't stop people from not fully inserting the stylus into the machine (I didn't want to break it!), and it won't stop them from mis-registering the card when it is inserted into the ballot holder.
Punch cards are garbage.
Bkmk
Some local corrupt officials won’t be getting their bribe money from Dominion. So Sad.
