I think if anyone ever goes to South Africa (spending a couple of weeks there), they’d come back and make a dozen easy comparisons to major urbanized areas of the US. Drug use may have come late to South Africa, but it just turboized the decline of the country.
The difference is that the whole country of South Africa is basically Baltimore. Here in USA, you only have inner cities that are like Baltimore. So you just have to avoid “no go” zones in this country. But in South Africa, you can’t really hide anymore so you might as well as get out of the country.
