The House of Representatives on Thursday passed a bill expanding background checks on individuals who are seeking to purchase or transfer firearms as top Democrats have vowed to reintroduce gun control measures.

“This bill is a critical step toward preventing gun violence and saving lives,” said Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.), who sponsored the measure known as H.R. 8 as Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) introduced the companion bill in the upper chamber.

The bill, titled the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021, passed 227-203, receiving eight Republican votes and one Democrat vote against. Five Republicans co-sponsored the bill along with several Democrats.

Just as all of the COVID crap has nothing to do with anyone’s health, this has nothing to do with crime or criminals...

Eau de contrare. The government aims to make the law abiding into criminals. That is the function of rule of law.

I will buy and sell firearms with private citizens in the parking lot of our state capitol, and DARE the Feds to do anything about it. THIS IS OUR RIGHT. They have NO BUSINESS TELLING TO WHOM WE CAN LOAN and/or SELL a firearm.

Remember how the anti-smoking lobby just wanted their own section in a restaurant? Then they just nibbled away until now where it is practically a felony to light up.

Of course if something similar had been passed by the Republicans back when PDJT was in office, this sort of thing would have resulted in the instant filing of numerous lawsuits against the law based on constitutionality. Such lawsuits would have been filed in federal court in pretty much every blue state, with NY, NJ and California proudly leading the charge.

Like for example a law to deport all illegal aliens, or to drug-test welfare recipients.

“This bill is a critical step toward preventing gun violence and saving lives,” said Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.)...

OK, Congressman Thompson, answer me this: How much of the gun violence is caused by the people who are most likely to obey your new set of rules? And how much by those who will (continue to) ignore the rules? You don't care to know; it would upset your agenda.

The government aims to make the law abiding into criminals.

“There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.”.- Ayn Rand

From another article:

While the bill faced pushback from a number of GOP lawmakers, three Republicans — Reps. Fred Upton (Mich.), Chris Smith (N.J.) and Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.) — co-sponsored the legislation.

GOP Reps. Vern Buchanan (Fla.), Maria Salazar (Fla.), Andrew Garbarino (N.Y.), Carlos Gimenez (Fla.) and Adam Kinzinger (Ill.) also joined Democrats in supporting the measure on Thursday.
