...two preprint studies posted March 7, evidence doesn't support supplementing vitamin D to stave off the virus. In one study researchers from McGill University in Canada looked at data from people who were genetically predisposed to vitamin D deficiency. They analyzed whether supplementing the nutrient might lower their risk of infection or severe illness from COVID-19. They found no evidence that supplementing vitamin D could improve coronavirus outcomes.
In another study researchers from Aristotle University in Greece compared the rates of vitamin D deficiency with rates of COVID-19 infection and mortality in 24 European countries, including Finland, Italy, the UK, and Germany. The data did not show a significant link between lower vitamin D levels in the population and higher rates of death and illness...
...it's too early to conclude that supplementing could protect people from infection or complications.
"Vitamin D has been praised for too many things even though we have very limited data for that," Dr Michael Chourdakis, lead author of the European study.
This isn't the first research to cast doubt on vitamin D as a potential coronavirus treatment. A study published in November 2020 found that large doses of vitamin D didn't reduce the severity of COVID-19 in patients.
Despite the new doubts about the merits of vitamin D for coronavirus treatment, there's a large body of research that suggests the nutrient is crucial for a healthy immune system. There's good evidence it plays a role in fighting off viral infection, which could extend to COVID-19.
A study published in October 2020 found that coronavirus patients who were given a highly potent form of vitamin D were significantly less likely to need intensive care, and none of them died. And another study found people with a vitamin D deficiency were twice as likely to be infected.

True. But, there’s also some body of evidence that indicates that as we age, our ability to convert UVA radiation into vitamin D diminishes, perhaps significantly.
I eat a very balanced diet with a lot of fish, like tuna and salmon, both excellent sources of vitamin d. I spend a lot of time outside (FL), and usually only put sunscreen on my face and ears (I have darker complexion). And yet, the only supplement my doctor makes me take is Vitamin D because I’m very close to the accepted minimal levels.

So, giving Vitamin D to someone with bad COVID-19 didn’t seem to fix it? So? Giving a COVID-19 vaccine to someone who already has bad COVID-19 won’t, either.
Vitamin D takes time to build up to help us. Take Vitamin D weeks before you might get infected.
D3 is good to take for a myriad of reasons—especially during the winter months.
There is no magic bullet—but then again the disease is not likely to kill you. So, take your vitamins and get on with life.
To the author of the article
Vitamin D does not protect anyone from CV19 or any other disease. It supports and enhances the immune system of your body. Should your immune system be compromised or just not up to what it should be vitamin D will help, support, enhance.
Sun isn’t much good when you have no skin exposed and the sun is low in the sky. Hence the (rough) 34 degrees latitude recommendation.
It’s not just D.
It’s D3, zinc, an ionophore like HCQ (anti-parasitic) or Ivermectin(anti-viral/anti-parsitic) or maybe Quercetin, and an antibiotic. HCQ and Zinc also help control inflammation which is a major effect of any infection and what generally sends covid19 infected to the hospital.
I’m tired of all these ‘studies’ that use only one element of the regimen, or use them in different ways e.g. giving them to people when it is way too late. Treat a disease before it gets out of hand not after they are hospitalized by it. I’m not saying they are guaranteed to work, just saying that the studies trying to appear as if they don’t work seem way more flawed than any of the studies showing they do.
I’m checked regularly for skin cancer. I’m outdoors a lot, but usually with long sleeves and pants. Not sure my face and hands generate enough vitamin D so I supplement. Costs me a few cents a day.
correction, HCQ and Ivermectin have anti-inflammatory properties (not HCQ and Zinc as I wrote above).
The terms of the study are important too.
Studying whether the sick are made better is different from studying whether they are infected to begin with.
Ditto....I totally avoid doctors unless it is absolutely necessary, case in point, two years ago I had lyme disease, had no choice but to get to the ER, I woke up with face drooping and speech slurred, thought I had a stroke, it was bells palsy due to lyme disease....I didn't know I had been bitten by a tick, no signs...I took the meds and that was the end of that....I take my supplements faithfully and I rarely get sick, last time I was sick was about 4 years ago, had walking pneumonia - my mother was alive then and I was taking care of her 24/7 (dementia) and had let myself get run down, neglected to take supplements, didn't sleep well, etc. etc.
Oh noes!!!!
😱😱😱😱😱
Fauci was wrong
“””””genetically predisposed to vitamin D deficiency.”””””
Waayy to much knowledge of certain small pills and such here!
Someone has been talking to “ALICE”.
Supplements taken orally aren’t as effectively absorbed. They just run through the digestive tract and get flushed out of the body.
Taken it for over 30 years with Zinc (gee what is missing in their study? They did the same thing with HCQ) Havent gotten a cold or flu. The studys like the one on the “ineffectiveness of HCQ are steaming piles of Bullsh!t. Sorry Medical Science can no longer be trusted. They are just as compromised as the media to get sensational headlines.
No worries. Joe Biden made a campaign promise to cure cancer!
My understanding is that the Scandinavian countries fortify their food with Vitamin D because of long overcast winters

I’d hate the think I went all last summer naked for nought.
