A top U.S. admiral has said that Taiwan is in China's military sights, warning of possible military action in the next six years, as well as fears Beijing could overtake America's global leadership role in the coming decades.
"Taiwan is clearly one of their ambitions ... And I think the threat is manifest during this decade, in fact, in the next six years," Adm. Philip Davidson, commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, told a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing Tuesday.
Davidson also said China could overtake the United States' hegemony in global affairs and assume a world leadership role by 2050.
"I worry that they're [China] accelerating their ambitions to supplant the United States and our leadership role in the rules-based international order," he added.
"They've long said that they want to do that by 2050. I’m worried about them moving that target closer."

China could invade Taiwan in the next six hours.
Could do it next week, too. What’s his point?
I think it will happen much sooner than that, but I don’t know that they will “invade” in some kind of D-Day event.
They are putting enormous pressure and effort into taking Taiwan without firing a shot.
China could easily invade Taiwan today or tomorrow, since, there is NO AMERICAN PRESIDENT right now. Who would stand in front of the cameras to say that China should stop and retreat or face consequences.
With no American president, the U.S. is toast.
I doubt very much if China is going to wait that long.
They will probably do it or attempt to sometime right after the Midterm Elections (late 2022).
By then, the White House would have decided if Uncle Joe is staying put or if it’s Kamala Time, full steam ahead.
If Kamala is put in as president (shudder!) I don’t even want to think about who will be appointed as her Vice President. Liz Warner will be loudly ‘clearing her throat’ for attention during the selection period.
(Stolen) elections have consequences.
Would, or could.
Depending on whether the US remains static militarily.
As far as them invading Taiwan in the next 6 years...I don’t think they’re dumb enough to try it. It would simply be a hamburger factory...they don’t have the means to do it decisively. Even without US involvement.
But look for a blockade. That’s something they can back out of once they have their assess handed to them.
The US knows it can’t fight a two front war.
Stuff is going to happen in the Middle East.
Stuff is going to happen in Asia.
I think the current administration will quietly “help” those things to happen. At the same time.
And when things happen, the US will say, We can’t fight a two front war. We also can’t decide which front we should prioritize. So we will basically surrender in both places simultaneously. It’s just too much for us. We are, you know, just getting over a case of the sniffles. Perhaps France can save the day this time.
We spend more on our military, so we have NOTHING to worry about regarding China...at least according to some people here.
We can be damn sure that the Butchers of Beijing noticed that Feels Up couldn't remember the name of the Secretary of Defense or even the agency where he worked yesterday. They noticed and they said to each other "Holy Mao,the Yankee Imperialist Paper Tigers can't be making it *that* easy for us!"
I have been to Taiwan and have friends there.
It would be a tragedy to allow China to take over.
What’s irritating is we spend more money on defense than Russia and China combined or so we are told..yet I read recently that China has a Navy larger than the US Navy.
How is that possible ??
Are the US Ships significantly more powerful and deadly than Chinese Ships ??
Or is the US spending more on things other than defending the USA....
I think the political correctness that is rotting the country is or has killed the military the one thing most Americans can hold on to....
It’s frightening in many ways...

Olympics in Being next year. Not before.
100% correct. I believe that if China is forced to invade Taiwan, they will feel they have failed. Of course, its certainly not off the table, but they would rather slowly and steadily rope Taiwan closer, and then squeeze out any opposition.
To do that, they want the USA out of the way, and US power diminished.
Their navy might be bigger than ours but,at this moment at least,it’s not nearly as deadly. But in the next four years Feels Up/Heels Up will make sure that changes...for obvious reasons.
