We don’t know that there was any threat that necessitated over 25,000 National Guard troops being in Washington, D.C., for Joseph Robinette Biden’s inauguration. We don’t know if there’s any threat that necessitates thousands of those troops being there now — or that any threat might exist in the near future that requires their presence in the nation’s capital.
But they get a cool ribbon for being there!
According to American Military News, those who served in the District of Columbia over the past few weeks will get either the District of Columbia National Guard Presidential Inauguration Support Ribbon or the District of Columbia Emergency Service Ribbon. In some cases, individuals could get both.
The Emergency Service Ribbon has already existed for those who serve in a time of crisis or an emergency that doesn’t have to do with war.
Meanwhile, the Presidential Inauguration Support Ribbon exists specifically for those who were in the District of Columbia for the inauguration.

DC has a rather steep income tax, 4% to 8.95%. Wonder if the troops from other states will have to pay it for working in DC. Like medical personnel which came to New York's assistance. For that matter I wonder about Congresspeople and their staff. I assume they exempted themselves.
All banana republics have leaders surrounded by military with tons of medals.

This is a “take your medal and shut up” consolation prize for the losers who drew the short straws defending the banana republic.
Medals got totally degraded in Vietnam. Silver Stars were automatically given to who spent 6 months in safe rear bases.
USAF officers would grab a chopper in Thailand, fly over to Vietnam and stooge around until some NVA took a shot at them. Then they’d fire back and go home and get put in for and receive Bronze Stars. That’s how you saw USAF maintenance officers with Bronze Stars.
Now apparently they give medals for Typing Above and Beyond the Call of Duty.
