When riots swept the nation’s capital on Jan. 6, 2021 . . .

What? Riots swept the capital? Washington was a ghost town all day. That is, except for 1.5 million or so Trump supporters ambling the 2 miles back and forth between the Washington Monument and the Capitol. Reports of some commotion at the Capitol didn't start until day's end. News videos of the Capitol and grounds from that time show a mass of people peacefully standing around talking, cheering, singing, and praying.

Any rioting must have been inside, in a very small space, among a very small group of people--by some pre-arrangement. If you watch the video threads, the rioting was visibly carried on, at least in part, by several men who are also seen on video taking part in Auntie-Fa and BLM riots over the summer.

You are thinking of amendments. States are admitted on the whim of Congress. Article IV, section 3.

Section 3 - New States New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress.

If a majority of Congress wants DC to be a state, that's what happens.

Thanks. It was an article worth reading! It’s just so rare these days to see an article that combines knowledge of current events, knowledge of history and knowledge of the constitution to teach readers something they don’t already know.

Far more common is someone with a passing knowledge of an episode in history who wants to argue that whatever lesson that event inspires is somehow the only proper way to interpret current events.

Good luck getting 3/4ths of the States to ratify this. Ot is it 2/3rds? Good luck with that too.

They'll carve out the Capitol, White House, and a few buildings as the Capitol District and the rest becomes a state with a simple majority vote in the House and Senate.
