This winter, we experienced snow and double-digit temperatures within the space of a week. Aside from the novelty of such a sudden change during lockdown, it’s a worrying sign of the climate crisis we are now facing.
This we know, but what is said less often is that climate change is a feminist issue – but it is and on International Women’s Day I want you to know why.
Firstly, women and girls are much more likely to be killed or injured in the face of a climate-related disaster.
Few are taught survival skills like how to swim or climb trees. Moreover, due to traditional caring roles, women and girls may prioritise the needs and safety of others, putting them at greater risk.
The impact of climate change may also leave women and girls exposed to different forms of gender-based violence, including child marriage. When floods hit Bangladesh in 2017, for instance,14-year-old Sarmin suddenly had to face the prospect of getting married.
All this paints a bleak picture. But, while women and girls are disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis, their knowledge, skills and leadership can also be a powerful defence against it.
I want to highlight what happens when the voices of women and girls are brought into the climate conversation, when their leadership is harnessed, and when they are given the space and opportunity to act.
Traditional patriarchal structures will do little to save us in our fight against climate change. We have to champion women leaders and make sure no one is left behind.
Women and girls are critical agents of change. It’s time we listened to them.

Wrong. It is a “feminist” issue because most feminist women are incompetent and lack any type of leadership skills and rational thought. So, they use the old standby ‘guilt’ feminine strategy to manipulate others. I’m starting to think I wouldn’t mind losing the right to vote as a woman just to get these pathetic, self-important and irresponsible nags out of influential positions.
After hunting the first year of our marriage, I decided a week's vacation suited me even better...I packed his gear, wished him luck and I was off to the Mall!!
Our Italian friends made the best deer cutlets and it was quite an event.
Suns out, buns out.
The buns of women affected most. ;-)
Swimming and climbing trees are survival skills. Right. And Really, does one have to be taught how to climb a tree?
I don’t know of any man who would discourage women from learning to climb trees. I am sure many would be happy to teach them just so they could stand below and look up.
The obese would appear to be more impacted when it comes to climbing trees than “women” if we are looking at demographics.
>>”we experienced snow and double-digit temperatures within the space of a week.”
She had to find something to (redacted) complain about.
At the turn of the century they were telling us that Britons would never again see snow in their lifetimes. That children growing up would NEVER see snow.
She survived the Tide Pods Challenge didn’t she? “You’re hired!”
Actually, because women tend to have a higher fat/muscle ratio they would tend to float better than males.
Now, I am speaking about an actual biological male. Not a woman who now thinks that she is a male.
>>they would tend to float better than males.
She’s a witch!
I'm sure there must be a correlation here that I'm missing.
What, you haven't heard of 14 year old Sarmin? I thought everyone had heard of 14 year old Sarmin. She's the 14 year old who thought she would have to get married because of floods. Where have you been?
They don’t even consider it these days! It is a completely foreign notion that has been purged from young women.
Journalism is a major for Liberal Arts college students who are not smart enough to be English majors.
We should make a list of basic things that we should teach our kids/young adults. All young people (boys and girls).
1) How to change a tire on your car.
2) How to check the oil, washer fluid, air filter, air pressure, etc on your auto.
3) How to hang a picture on a wall using a tape measure, a level, hammer and a nail.
4) How to wash clothes and fold a shirt.
5) How to cook basic foods.
6) How to throw and catch a ball.
7) How to build a fire.
8) How to swim well enough to save your life.

She turned me into a Newt
Every culture issue is enabled by and made possible by women’s right to vote
Women like security ....period
I’ll save you time with your list. Convenient that I posted this on another thread already today:
“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”
-Robert Heinlein
What are you talking about? Of course women can swim and climb trees. Geez, what a sexist pig woman. How insulting.
5) How to cook basic foods. Without a microwave.
My grandkids had no idea you could cook popcorn without a microwave or make home made pizza.
