Portland Oregon politicians decided to drastically cut the budget for the police department at the end of last year, hoping to make their city streets safer — at least for Antifa and Black Lives Matter.
For the rest of the citizens? Not so much. Shootings have skyrocketed — nearly 2 1/2 times higher than the year before. Authorities blame the pandemic. And unemployment. And “systemic racism.” And everything but the 7 percent reduction in the police budget.
The cuts with the biggest impact on gun violence included the disbanding of the highly effective Gun Violence Reduction Team. The unit was charged with getting guns and violent criminals off the streets.
Former Salinas, California, Police Chief Kelly McMillin told the Portland police, “Not to be overly dramatic, but if you lose the unit which focuses on removing firearms from the hand of violent offenders, people will die. It’s really just that simple.”
But it’s far too complicated for the woke city council members who believed the Gun Violence Reduction Team was racist and had to go.

City council won’t ever admit..They know minority groups are violent and they don’t care..You and your family are destroyed ,not the city council and their families....Angry,pissed off blacks wanting revenge over racism will be going after your family and your business...Exactly what the city council wants.....
Years ago I passed some incident in Newark NJ and there was a large police vehicle there; I’ve seen it since parked in some of the wilder areas of the city. The wording on it was “Neighborhood Stabilization Unit”; I guess it brought short-term civilization along, and when it left, the ferals would start wilding again...
It’s not just the 7% budget cut it’s basically the blue flu. Cops are worn out and demoralized and I don’t blame them. I was in the city (not Portland) the last 2 days. Place is a craphole. People openly smoking drugs on the street. Trash and dirt everywhere. Dilapidated buildings and lots of for-lease signs. People driving recklessly and parking haphazardly. Kids wandering around; I saw a bunch of them gathered on the grass outside a closed school wearing chin diapers. And lots of homes being remodeled.
Wait until one of their hug a thug social workers get blown away. They’ll form a committee to try and figure out what happened. It will totally mystify them.
