With reparations, there is the issue of who pays. Do African countries owe reparations to black Americans? After all, Harvard's director of the Hutchins Center for African & African American Research, Henry Louis Gates, wrote that 90% of those enslaved and shipped to the New World were sold by Africans to European slavers. All whites? Only whites? Nonwhites? Are payments owed for the time before the United States became a country?
Former University of California, Los Angeles, historian Roger McGrath writes:
"The reparationists claim that the United States must compensate the descendants of slaves for 400 years of slavery. Since the United States was not established until 1788 (when the required three-fourths majority of the states approved the Constitution), slavery existed for only 77 years before the 13th Amendment abolished it." McGrath also writes about the number of whites who owned slaves in the January issue of Chronicle Magazine:

Other questions I’ve considered over the years: if whites pay, how about descendants of whites who came to the US after 1865? How about descendants of whites who only lived in non-slavery states? How about descendants of Union veterans [do they get a credit?] How about descendants of Union soldiers who died during the war [bigger credit?]
No taxation without representation.
No reparations without repatriation.
They want to play the reparations game, yeah we can play games too. It’s been said the ancient Egyptians were BLACK. They enslaved OUR ancestors, the ancient Hebrews for a lot longer than slavery in the US. Anything we owe them would be chump change compared to just the accrued interest on a 5000+ yr old debt that not one single payment has been made on.
Well, my kin folks got here in the 1630 time frame and fought the brits in the revolution and fought the confederacy in the (un)civil war too so...... Hand out, where’s the loot!?
What about the ‘multi-racial’ people?
Would a half & half Mulatto get 50% reparations?
Quadroons get 25%
Octoroons get 8%.
It’s a silly indulgent gesture, when everyone knows that all races have suffered discrimination at one time or another.
Many still do in certain areas of the globe.
Reparations seems focused on taking away other people’s money and giving it out to someone who has done nothing to earn that money.

There were two reasons for small direct payments. First, was the recognition that giving money directly would be wasted. Second, was the realization that giving each recipient $40K (
a commonly talked about value) would create intense resentment. Imagine the reaction among those who would have to pay the reparations.
Then, there was the idea that the money would be spent more wisely by community organizers on the behalf of the recipients.

I will say if you give a large chunk of change to someone with little money management skill, you really haven’t done them any favors. They won’t know how to invest to build wealth and change their life. It’ll be spent on “retail therapy” as I call it. Spending in the moment that makes you feel good, but doesn’t really improve your financial future. In just a year or two, back to zero.
My prediction on how much this would raise?
the return to Africa would be a moment fraught with sentiment and emotions for all....
Al Jolson in the Jolson Story and earlier film Mammy pleaded with his apparently dying mother to recognize him and hear that he was sorry for not coming back until so late.
Mammy... My little Mammy. The sun shines east-- the sun shines west-- I know where-- the sun shines best! It's on my Mammy I'm talkin' about, nobody else's! .... Mammy-- Mammy, I'm comin'-- I'm so sorry that I made you wait! Mammy-- Mammy, I'm comin'! Oh God, I hope I'm not late! Look at me, Mammy! Don't you know me? I'm your little baby! I'd walk a million miles For one of your smiles, My Mammy!
It’s all about “feelings” to the left. No one deserves “reparations” for slavery.
Picture of the glass donation jar....
Louis Farrakhan: Come, now, my pale brothers and sisters in the Devil’s America, I don’t want to to hear no coins clanging in there. I want to hear checks and Benjamins floating down. You know you owe us. You owe us big time.
I didn’t own slaves. My ancestors didn’t. Those who owned slaves died and their guilt was not passed down through the genes. Their guilt didn’t jump from their descendants to me because I have a similar skin shade. I’m not paying.

How ‘bout descendants of black slave owners?
How ‘bout blacks that arrived after slavery?
How much ‘black’ do you have to be to qualify?
Excellent questions.
A little personal look @ #3:
How much ‘black’ do you have to be to qualify?
We have been told 1% DNA might qualify you/me/anyone.
My African DNA was at 6% before thousands of German ancestors were added to my DNA pool. That, brought me down to 3% African DNA.
My family’s African DNA %’s are all over. A sibling has 2%, and her children were also 2% and her grand kids 1-2%.
Amazing, how they can measure African DNA down to 1%, yet with over 100 ancestors documented by the old fashioned paper way to be Cherokee or Creek ancestors don’t show up as DNA ancestors.
A cynical cousin and also, one of my direct heirs, both feel that this was pre planned re even 1% African DNA showing and zero Native American DNA showing, making that individual eligible for payments.
Being realistic cynics, they feel that Biden and his progressive thugs will just pass retributions down to 1% to receiving payments as so called descendants of slaves.
Then, you get into some other sticky issues. I have a handful of African relative ancestors, who were documented on per early censuses, listed as “Free Blacks”. More are showing up.
So if, my/our black ancestors were “Free Blacks”, Are we still eligible for reparations?
They or their ancestors were slaves at one time, probably or maybe. Did they own slaves?
Then, do we get reparations for our Irish and Scottish ancestors, who were indentured servants, (Brit legalese meaning white slaves).
All but 5% here after slavery.
At work the middle aged black women often joked to each other a variation on “That mechanic at BP has been overcharging people since slave days.” The women didn’t look a day over 140.
Well they have put the red carpet out for any who want to go there.....once the protests, and burnings and such got hot and heavy Africa Leaders were quick to welcome them “Home”....
While we are at it, Seattle's Chief Seath and the Alki tribe need to apologize to the aboriginals who lived on near-by islands for their using captured tribes as slaves.
For starters....
Reparations??? No, ..never! Not a one of them can claim they’ve been a slave and none of us as slave masters. It’s just yet another scam to rip off those who work for a living.
Wow.
That is even more complicated that I imagine.
If’n it were up to me, I would be offering one-time $10,000 payments to any US citizen of any race, with a first class airline ticket anywhere in the world.
Only thing you have do is surrender your passport and renounce your American citizen ship before you get your ticket and your check.
You also become persona non grata - you may never, ever re-enter the US for any reason.
Remember Erin Brockovitch (not too sure about the spelling)?
She and the lawyers made out like bandits with billions of dollars while each person in that town received a check for $6.00.
