(Reuters) - A U.S. judge on Wednesday ordered the release of a prominent member of the far-right Proud Boys group while he awaits trial on charges stemming from his role in the storming of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
Calling her decision a “close call,” Chief Judge Beryl Howell in Washington said the U.S. government failed to show that Ethan Nordean posed such a danger to the public that he must be jailed while his case unfolds.
During the court hearing, Howell said federal prosecutors had “backtracked” and failed to substantiate allegations that Nordean was a ringleader of the attack, which left five people dead, including a police officer.
“The dearth of evidence about his directions is significant,” Howell said, adding the evidence she heard at Wednesday’s hearing suggested Nordean just “went along with this mob.”

Generally, people should be released if there’s no showing of risk of flight or danger to the public.
Unless they’re political prisoners of a tyranny...
What’s the usual Deep State Go-To Judge, Amy Berman Jackson, doing?
From the article:
‘Under standard court rules, Nordean’s case will be assigned to another judge in the District of Columbia, who could still revisit the issue of pretrial detention, Howell said during the hearing.’
Once again Reuters, Proud Boys is hardly far-right. They are conservatives that want to be left alone. The difference is, they will actually fist-fight if attacked.

What’s the charge? Trespassing on federal property? Destruction of government property? Someone needs to re-read the 8th Amendment.
If they charged him with “incitement to insurrection” that would undermine the argument that Trump and Guiliani etc were the masterminds!
Feds taking care of their own? Even so, this hurts the narrative.
How many deaths attributable to and caused by the event? MSM says five, my count is zero. And the police will not give up the cause of the policeman's death while the charges against the unruly citizens is still under debate. Kind of fishy, eh?
Perhaps this is a judge with some sense of honor and fairness, an attribute we see being forgotten these days by other tainted jurists.
I must be terribly uninformed as I was only aware of the girl that was killed by the cop and the cop that died of a cerebral hemorrhage of undetermined cause.
Umm, the judge didn’t get Pelosi’s email.
“this hurts the narrative”
But sometimes, not often, even an Obama judge has to follow the law.
The Federal Bureau of Intimidation doesn't appreciate this.

you’re correct.
Actually, at least two - and maybe four - of the dead either died of natural causes or accidentally (i.e., the woman who might have been trampled). The only person known to have died from actual violence was one of the protesters. Saying that five people died is like saying 920 people died while watching the Super Bowl, suggesting that the Super Bowl caused their death.

CNN, Twitter, FB, and MSN keep pushing lie after lie after lie and conspiracy theories yet talk about “no evidence” of mail in ballots being fraudulent.
“U.S. judge orders release of Proud Boys member charged in Capitol riots, Reuters, March 3, Jan Wolfe”
Jan, baby, you need to update your resume, as the NY Times REQUIRES that you call this ‘event’ an INSURRECTION (even if it would be the first ‘insurrection’ in the world without firearms in the past 500 years).
