Gov. Gavin Newsom urged schools across the state to take a more aggressive stance in getting students back into classrooms, saying $2 billion in grants for districts to reopen should be enough to address lingering anxiety and roadblocks.
“We have the capacity to get these kids safely back to in-person instruction,” Newsom said Tuesday at a Palo Alto news conference. “It’s about the children. It’s about their emotional well-being.”
“No one is naive about that and that’s exactly why yesterday we announced the $6.6 billion commitment with the legislature ... to provide support for districts that need more sanitation, need more ventilation, need more peer-to-peer support, more staff support.”
Newsom declined to say whether he would consider ordering reluctant schools to reopen, but that he would continue to “work in a collaborative spirit.”
Despite the state funding, many of the state’s 6 million public school students likely won’t go back into schools this spring. Newsom said, however, he is optimistic about reopening most of California by August, with enough vaccine available to all state residents.
“We will not only open our schools for in-person instruction but a vast portion of our business sectors as well,” he said. “I am confident we can get our kids back safely for in-person instruction (this fall).”

“THIS FALL”???
Those kids are supposed to just sit around idle and bored all this summer? Not even a Summer School to ease them back into the routine? Gavin is still not living in the real world. Many parents can’t go back to work full time until their kids start leaving the house again. Does he still not get it?
How does California have a tax surplus? Is it real money or projected like Clinton’s surplus

Not much difference anyway.
Here a billion, there a billion, everywhere a billion billion. They think they’re playing with monopoly money.
Texas re-opened last fall.
The commercial building “retrofit” and “renovation” industry is linking arms with the teachers union - for mare graft. And as usual California Dims are bending the knee to them.
Dims are so use to their own politics that relies on the media pressure of mere allegations and claims, even if unfounded, they succumb to the same thing from their own donor constituencies. They are truly the “reactionaries”.
That is OVER $1000 per student. ON TOP of what property taxes have been paid to run schools....That have been CLOSED...
