Merck & Co. will help produce Johnson & Johnson ’s single-dose Covid-19 vaccine, President Biden plans to announce on Tuesday, as the administration pushes to get the shot to the American public at a faster pace.
The president is expected to make the announcement while giving an update on the pandemic, administration officials said. The assistance from Merck, a competitor to Johnson & Johnson, will help speed up production after the one-shot vaccine was authorized by the Food and Drug Administration on Saturday.
J&J declined to comment. In a statement on Tuesday, a Merck spokesman said the company “remains steadfast in our commitment to contribute to the global response to the pandemic and to preparing to address future pandemics.”
U.S. regulators cleared J&J’s vaccine—the third to receive approval—for use, but initial supplies are limited as the company boosts manufacturing efforts. The New Brunswick, N.J.-based company had made nearly four million doses for initial shipments that began going out this week. The Biden administration said it expected about 20 million doses to be delivered by the end of March.
The Biden administration has said it expects to have enough doses for all Americans by the end of July, based on agreements to purchase the vaccine from Pfizer Inc. and Moderna Inc. It wasn’t immediately clear how the J&J vaccine would affect that timetable.

Complete with Merck having already stating they were dropping their own vaccine because simply getting covid and recovering was far more protective than ANY vaccine.
These are the real experts in vaccine land- Merck. So— joebama is going to f it up real good by giving Merck a “waiver” on liability in manufacture (don’t forget Cuomo’s legislative liability waiver for NY nursing homes- which allowed him to FORCE nursing homes to take in KNOWN infected covid patients and KILL 15K + older patients- murderers).

I think JNJ’s vaccines are easier to manufacture and deploy. They are more of the traditional kind and do not require artic temperatures to store, which needs special infrastructure. THAT’S why JNJ’s vaccine will be more widely deployed in third world countries.

Is this safe? How is Merck going to help? Is it distribution of the vaccine? Is Merck qualified for this type of production? Do they make vaccines? You don’t just start making stuff without qualifications.

A ‘one shot’ vaccine is faster at creating herd immunity.
A single shot protects the population faster... If they can do both it’s great news.
They’ll get paid either way but this choice could save a lot of lives.

Why I was surprised.
The vaccination issue is surprising what it evokes.
I’ve said this from the beginning. If CV19 was truly a dangerous pathogen they could have 7.6 billion doses available by mandating that manufacturing plants worldwide produce it.
The recipe or recipes could have been made available to all pharmaceutical companies that have the means to produce it.
Screw profits. We’re talking about the continuing existence of humankind.
