Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), the head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, verbalized he will fortify any Republican incumbent senator against primary challengers—despite an assertion made by former President Donald Trump that he would primary some senators.
Scott, in an interview with Fox News on Sunday, would not verbally express whether the Republican Party belongs to “Trump.”

But they also exist to PREVENT any REAL conservative from BECOMING an incumbent.
So for example, they'll back INCUMBENT Lisa Murkowski over the REPUBLICAN nominee in 2010 (that was John Cornyn under orders from Mitch McConnell).
This is how the system works to protect itself. The people don't choose their senators. The senators choose the nominees the people get to pick from.
Disappointed in my Senator Scott!
What has to be done is to get rid of Scott.
It exists specifically to elect Republicans to the Senate. It says nothing about backing incumbents over challengers. If it comes down to a choice of losing with an incumbent or having a better chance of winning with someone else then I would hope they would go with the winner.
Run MAGA candidates in both the Dem and Rep primaries for his Senate seat.
Didn’t he also say he thought Joe won “fair and square?”
Government of the people, not, by the people, not, and for the people, not.
Sayonara Scott. I wondered why Rubio had that sudden withdrawal from CPAC.
Trump does one thing great, he smokes them out.
Huh?
How STUPID!! it DEPENDS on which INCUMBENTS! GOOD FREAKING GRIEF!
Scott always looked like a Martian. All he needed were two antennas coming out of his bald head to seal the deal.
How did that work out in regards to the GOPe and a sitting president?
I’m not a Floridian so I couldn’t vote when he ran for Senate nor can I vote when he runs for re-election. I saw him speak at a conference I attended in Orlando when he was governor and knew I wouldn’t vote for him beyond his current office. He was ill-prepared for his presentation, didn’t know the first thing about his audience, and was clearly trying to send the message that he was something he clearly wasn’t. I know FL FReepers thought they were getting something better and different when they first elected him and he has proven out to be a disappointing swamp denizen in DC.
Very disappointed to see Scott involved with the NRSC. He should know better and obviously is expecting Trump voters to pull him over the line in 2024.
He was quick to sell-out the 2nd amendment after Parkland (3- day wait and 21yoa for all firearms) in Florida. I know it was just an incremental erosion, but it tags him in my mind Forever a RINO.
Backing an incumbent is NOT the American way. WE the People will decide who the best candidates will be.
“If it comes down to a choice of losing with an incumbent or having a better chance of winning with someone else then I would hope they would go with the winner.”
I’ve been watching the machinations for decades. Since McConnell became head of the party in the Senate, the above has NEVER been the calculation.
To the contrary. The calculation has been to reelect the incumbent or help the Democrat defeat the conservative. Those are the two choices.
This calculation also applies to Murkowski. She’s a Democrat but she just doesn’t call herself that. But she prevents an additional CONSERVATIVE vote from a SOLIDLY Republican state. This is how they work it.
Scott needs to be reminded that he is expendable.
Then he could be a thorn in the Dims side for as long as he wants.
