Donald Trump Jr. attacks Cheney at CPAC: 'Lincoln Project Liz'
The Hill ^ | 2/26/2021 | MORGAN CHALFANT

Donald Trump Jr. used his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando on Friday to rail against President Biden’s first moves in office and criticize establishment Republicans like House GOP Conference Chair Liz Cheney (Wyo.).

Former President Trump’s eldest son mocked Cheney as "Lincoln Project Liz," referring to the anti-Trump GOP group, after Cheney was one of the House Republicans voted to impeach his father on a charge of inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol.

“Who would have thought within 33 days we’d be bombing the Middle East again,” Trump Jr. said. “Speaking of bombing the Middle East, have you seen Liz Cheney’s poll numbers?”

-snip-

“I am looking forward to Sunday,” Trump Jr. told the crowd. “I imagine it will not be what we call a low energy speech. I assure you that it will solidify Donald Trump and all of our feelings about the MAGA movement as the future of the Republican Party.”

80% of Maine is Trump country....the Second Congressional district. Candidate Trump won it in 2016 and 2020, for one electoral vote. Maine splits it’s votes, like Nebraska. It covers 27,000 square miles and is the largest congressional district in area east of the Mississippi.

We have a moonbat woman, Janet Mills, as governor, but for eight years we had Paul LePage, the most conservative governor in the country at the time. He was term-limited in 2018, but claims he’s going to run again in 2022.

Maine is VERY strong in regards to the Second Amendment, with private sales of firearms, Constitutional Carry, etc.

As for Collins, she voted in favor of President Trump’s tax cuts and the overwhelming majority of President Trump’s judicial picks. A democrat senator would have been a “no” vote across the board.

However, Collins pissed off huge numbers of people in Maine by voting to convict President Trump. I don’t believe she will be able to show her face in the Second District without people yelling at her.

As for losing that seat, it depends on who runs for it. Collins just won a six year term.

I was there in person, although I couldn’t get into the main ballroom (too full!) so I had to settle for an overflow room. Amazing speech!

Maine IS a purple state.

See my post # 21.

Maine had the most conservative governor, Paul LePage, from 2010 - 2018, when he was term limited. He said he will run again next year for governor. He was a great governor.

Donald Trump carried the Second Congressional district in 2016 and 2020 and one electoral vote each time.

Donald Trump and his family members made many trips to Maine’s CD 2 in both 2016 and 2020, drawing large, fired up crowds.

Collins has name recognition....that’s part of her winning formula in regards to getting elected.

Her moonbat dem opponent attracted $50 million to $100 million in out-of-state money last year. Sarah Gideon, Maine’s former Speaker of the House, was the RAT candidate. She is a 48 year old version of AOC, complete with the little girl voice.

“I am looking forward to Sunday,”

So am I. Could be the Super Bowl of politics.

Fantastic! I just finished listening to Gov Desanta’s (sp) speech. That was terrific! And he mentioned Rush too. Are you there for the entire event?

Just curious... Can you estimate how many people are at CPAC this year?

We were at CPAC 2020 (and went to at least 10 CPACs before that one).

The ACU crammed in about 6,000 people inside the gigantic Potomac Ballroom at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland a year ago. Thousands more were always milling around outside in the corridors, or break-out rooms.

I saw it reported somewhere (can't find that source now) that CPAC 2020 counted 19,000 attendees.

From what I've seen on TV this year, CPAC doesn't look as crowded as usual. If that's the case, I assume it's because of COVID and the FL location.

I had forgotten about LePage. Was he one of those few conservatives who could draw democrat voters the way Trump did?

Isn’t the population in Maine along the coastal areas? I do recall Portland, Bangor and Augusta being the bigger cities. Are they reliably democrat areas that can out vote the rest of the state?

If Collins just won reelection at 68 years old I expect this is her last hurrah. Could explain the vote to convict in the impeachment farce.

Regarding Maine Governor Paul LePage....
When he ran the first time, there was an Independent in the race too, who captured some of the democrat votes. So that helped LePage get elected the first time, in 2010. The GOP also won the Maine House (for two years) and the Maine Senate, which went back to being democrat controlled in recent years.

When LePage ran the second time, in 2014, he did better than expected in the Portland area, which has a high concentration of liberals, illegals, asylum seekers, etc.

LePage’s strong holds were in northern Maine and northwestern Maine.

LePage actually spoke French before he spoke English....his family was French/Acadian....western Maine borders Quebec. He is one of...I think sixteen children.

His father was no good. He beat his son Paul when he was a kid, and once dropped young Paul off at a hospital, gave him half a dollar, and told him “Tell them you walked into a wall.” Nice.

Young Paul ran away from home and lived on the streets, earning some money shining shoes. A Charles Dickens character! Eventually, another family took him in, and young adult Paul went to college, eventually became mayor of Waterville, Maine and CEO of Marden’s, a chain of discount and salvage stores here in Maine.

The First Congressional District....southeastern Maine...is more liberal than the Second District, and sometimes skews statewide and senatorial elections towards the democrats.
It comprises 20% of the state’s land area, and it is where Portland is located.

Many states have this problem....the Los Angeles and San Francisco area skews California to the democrats.....Las Vegas skews Nevada toward the RATS....then there’s Philadelphia and Pittsburgh which prior to 2016 turned Pennsylvania to the dems. Or, as James Carville said, “Pennsylvania is Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with Alabama in between.”

Then Chicago messes with the Illinois statewide vote....Detroit with Michigan’s.....Seattle skews Washington state....many states have this problem.

Bangor has a lot of dems but, being in the 2nd district, has a lot of GOP voters here and there, too.

Augusta, the capital, not a huge factor in elections.

The coastal areas swell in population during the summer. At election time, those areas are more liberal than the interior, which has a bigger population than you might think. Lewiston and Auburn area sizeable areas, away from the coast, and, in the case of Lewiston, it has a lot of Somali refugees.

LePage sounds like quite the guy. He could easily have turned into a bleeding heart liberal but thankfully didn’t. Too bad he’s 72, otherwise he would be a great replacement for Collins.

Than a for the explanation of the politics in Maine. We have the same problem here in Virginia. Richmond and everything north is blue with the northern counties, bedroom communities of D.C., being very dark blue. They have the population to out vote the rest of the state.

LePage was considering a Senate run in 2018 against so-called Maine Independent Angus King, but decided against it.

First of all, LePage hates Washington, D.C. Second, he said in the Senate you’re one of a hundred, whereas as an executive, such as a governor, you’re the sole decision maker on many issues.

President Trump is believed to have wanted LePage in his administration in some capacity but, again, LePage did not want to move to Washington.

When LePage ran for governor the first time, he was overheard telling a group of supporters, “If I’m elected, I’m going to spend most of my time telling Obama to go to hell.”

Of course, the media had a field day, but LePage rose higher in the polls.

Gov. LePage was always getting into trouble speaking his mind, some of it quite blue. The democrats and the media were always outraged, but his supporters loved it.

In many ways, Gov. LePage made President Trump look shy and reserved. The two men got along great. I miss them both.

LePage was active during the GOP primary last July, but I didn’t see or hear from him during the Fall election cycle.

Interestingly enough, when LePage ran for governor, former First Lady Barbara Bush made commercials on TV endorsing him.

Before labor day in 2010, I met Olympia Snowe in a local supermarket. I had a 20 minute conversation with her, and she made it clear that she supported the election of Paul LePage for governor. A pleasant surprise at the time.

I don’t blame LePage for hating DC. Any sane person does. As for being 1 of 100 you have to factor in the seniority system ruled by the likes of McConnell & company. Okay for a young person with decades ahead, not so much for an older person.
Then there are the lies and backstabbing in the hallowed halls of congress.
I don’t blame him.

Interesting about Snowe.
I never knew how to take her. She seemed to be in the mushy middle sometimes. Maybe that worked for her to get things done at the time.
Modern democrats don’t negotiate they demand stridently and browbeat to get their way.
I sure wish Snowe had stayed on, knowing what I know now.

I fear you have misunderstood (or more likely, I was not clear!). I wish I was at CPAC this year but unfortunately it wasn’t possible. I was referring to having been in 2009 for Rush’s big speech. Impossible to ever forget.

What a great memory to have. I listened to the speech live, I think on CSPAN. It's available on youtube as well.
