LePage sounds like quite the guy. He could easily have turned into a bleeding heart liberal but thankfully didn’t. Too bad he’s 72, otherwise he would be a great replacement for Collins.

Than a for the explanation of the politics in Maine. We have the same problem here in Virginia. Richmond and everything north is blue with the northern counties, bedroom communities of D.C., being very dark blue. They have the population to out vote the rest of the state.

LePage was considering a Senate run in 2018 against so-called Maine Independent Angus King, but decided against it.

First of all, LePage hates Washington, D.C. Second, he said in the Senate you’re one of a hundred, whereas as an executive, such as a governor, you’re the sole decision maker on many issues.

President Trump is believed to have wanted LePage in his administration in some capacity but, again, LePage did not want to move to Washington.

When LePage ran for governor the first time, he was overheard telling a group of supporters, “If I’m elected, I’m going to spend most of my time telling Obama to go to hell.”

Of course, the media had a field day, but LePage rose higher in the polls.

Gov. LePage was always getting into trouble speaking his mind, some of it quite blue. The democrats and the media were always outraged, but his supporters loved it.

In many ways, Gov. LePage made President Trump look shy and reserved. The two men got along great. I miss them both.

LePage was active during the GOP primary last July, but I didn’t see or hear from him during the Fall election cycle.

Interestingly enough, when LePage ran for governor, former First Lady Barbara Bush made commercials on TV endorsing him.

Before labor day in 2010, I met Olympia Snowe in a local supermarket. I had a 20 minute conversation with her, and she made it clear that she supported the election of Paul LePage for governor. A pleasant surprise at the time.
