he Coca-Cola bottling plant at 830 N. Sixth St. in Lafayette is laying off some of its employees and consolidating its operations to a new automated distribution center in Whitestown, Indiana, according to a recent letter the company sent to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
The plant is owned by Coca-Cola Consolidated, which is the largest Coke bottler in the United States, according to its website. The company says in the letter the layoffs will happen over a two-week period beginning April 18.
About 50 people who work at the Lafayette plant will be affected. A spokesperson for Coca-Cola says in a statement to News 18 the vast majority of them could transition to working at the Whitestown facility, which is about an hour drive from Lafayette.
Kara Webb, workforce development director for Greater Lafayette Commerce, says she hopes many of them choose to stay in the area.
"It does appear a lot of those jobs will be moving to Whitestown, but if those folks wanted to stay close and want to be still working in our community, there are a lot of opportunities that are open right now," she says.

Hope they don't paint those machines white.
.
Shouldn’t Coke go to clear rather than remaining a caffeine distributor of color?
They should start adding Bacardi, it would up sales considerably. I’d buy it! Had some crappy canned rum & cola in the eighties, yuck!
Where in the heck is it written that The State needs to be notified of some such move?
Bacardi? Try Flor de Cana ORO . The 4 year old stuff is wonderful and inexpensive. Don't waste money on the older FdC it's better but not for the value.
Lots more execs need to take the training classes.
Can they get the town to change its name to “POCtown”?
Whitestown???
How ironic. The whole city should be cancelled. ;)
Coke needs to check their privilege.
Government needs to be notified because of the WARN Act.

That’s gotta be some unConstitutional provision based on the faulty Wickard v. Filburn SCOTUS kr@p.
Just sayin’
They need to change the name of that town to something less offensive. (sarc)
On the bright side, it means less diabetes in Louisiana.
Dude, this is about Indiana, not LA.
In the Indiana code and is part of the unemployment insurance program rules and regs.
How many blacks are in this #
