Rush appears to have gotten military honors. He didn't serve in the military, so it means that somebody authorized these honors.

Had Trump been president, I'm sure Rush's body wold have lain in repose at the Capitol Rotunda, and I'm equally sure that Rush would have been granted military honors by the president.

But the Biden Administration would never grant these honors. So who did?

The Presidential Medal of Freedom may have some bearing on this.

Some have said that the Medal of Freedom carries such honors.

But Rush was a big contributor to the Marine charities....................

He received Medal of Freedom. Highest civilian honor possible.

Certainly you must know that Rush was a very generous benefactor to the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation.

Their website gives tribute to his support and generosity.

That's why the Marine is at his funeral.

Regarding the Marine Staff Sergeant at Rush’s burial. My guess is that he is there as a “Thank you” from Marines for Rush’s decades long support for the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation.

A single Marine and a flag draped coffin is not what I consider “military honors” as I knew them during 20 years in the Army and having served on Army funeral details, thus no one in the government need to have authorized it. Full honors are a flag detail, firing squad, and bugler playing taps. As a retired Army Captain, I can appear at a funeral wearing my uniform if I wish. I cannot wear it at a political function.

Its website: https://www.mc-lef.org/

The MC-LEF opening page reads:

OUR BOARD IS DEEPLY SADDENED AT THE LOSS OF OUR ESTEEMED BOARD MEMBER, MR. RUSH LIMBAUGH. RUSH, MAY YOU REST IN PEACE & GOD’S SPEED. YOU HAVE HELPED SO MANY OF OUR RECIPIENTS WITH YOUR GENEROSITY AND SUPPORT.

THE MCLEF RUSH LIMBAUGH MEMORIAL “GIANT OF PHILANTHROPY” SCHOLARSHIP WILL BE ESTABLISHED IN PERPETUITY.

This was discussed on the other thread. It’s not clear that Rush received full military honors. Anyone can have their casket draped with the flag. The lone Marine in the picture may have been there because Rush contributed millions to, and was a board member of, the Marine Law Enforcement Foundation.
