HOUSTON — Last week, the Texas power grid was “4 minutes 37 seconds away from a total collapse,” meaning a statewide blackout, ERCOT officials said at an emergency board meeting Wednesday. Had it happened, Electric Reliability Council of Texas says Texas would have been in the dark for weeks if not longer.

So be thankful for the short blackouts you had and stop complaining!
And I always thought Texas was this massive energy powerhouse when in reality it’s like a candle in the wind.
As mentioned here a few days ago, Alberta, Canada does not have this problem. Why I wonder?
So basically, nothing was learned or fixed in 10 years...
“Three-hundred and fifty-six generators were knocked offline during the storm nearly doubling what Texas experienced during its last major winter storm in 2011. It led to millions of Texans being in the dark for a record 70.5 hours.”

Good grief!
im sure syfi is working on the movie script now,,
another man-made climate change catastrophe drama.
The entire US grid is less than 30 minutes from complete collapse at any given moment.
L
It was bad but not quite as bad as it could have been.
Fine, stop yammering and let’s fix this.
Horse manure.
ERCOT ...”You had ONE JOB!”
Yes.
The Texas problem has been developing over 20 years. We have been shutting reliable baseload for the last 20 years. We shut down 95,000MWs of baseload coal in the last ten years. Green energy is destabilizing the grid because it can’t run 24/7/365 like baseload can.
It always has been as along as I remember! I constantly berate my local gubmint because the power grid is about 1950s standard. Instead of working with the power company to improve the infrastructure they spend all their time worrying about a stupid statue, or some nonsensical things!
30 minutes?
Time enough to watch another episode of Women Using Hammers on HGTV.
The problem is that Texas’ grid wasn’t connected to the national grids, so when Texas had an unexpected outage, it couldn’t draw on electricity from other states.

This!
Alberta is part of the western interconnection, so can call on other states if needed. Also, it is prepared for snow
Texas ERCOT isn't connected and wasn't prepared for snow
Short blackouts?
How about 5-7 hours without power for every 1 hour with it?
For four days.
