srael’s Defense Ministry and the German Federal Defense Ministry on Tuesday signed a government-to-government agreement to supply Rafael’s Trophy active protection system to the German military for the latter’s fleet of Leopard 2 tanks.
Trophy protects against a wide variety of anti-tank threats, while also maximizing the vehicle’s ability to identify the enemy location to crews and combat formation, thereby providing greater survivability and maneuverability in all combat theatres.
The development of the Trophy program was led by the Directorate of Defense R&D (MAFAT) in the Israeli Defense Ministry and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. It is currently deployed in more than 1,000 systems in all major IDF ground combat platforms (Merkava, Namer, Abrams, Stryker, and Bradley).
The agreement was signed by the Director-General of the Israel Defense Ministry, Maj. Gen. (Res.) Amir Eshel, and by an official in the German Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service-Support. It includes the provision of systems for a company of tanks, interceptors, and spare parts, as well as operational and technical training. The systems will be delivered over the next several years.

Nixon/Kissenger China was a good move.
The old cliche is’Nothing more dangerous than one with nothing to lose.
Did it help advance China, yes; no question.
But China did not ramp up for another 15-20 years if you accept the numbers out of China.
China holds a knife, alright.
But it took many years to acquire.
It was the Germans who sold the Israelis their Type 212 air independent propulsion (silent-as-nuclear) Dolphin-class submarines. And the Israelis put nuclear-tipped cruise missiles in them. And they have the range to reach Tehran from the Mediterranean sea. And because the subs are so stealthy, the Israelis can nuke Tehran any time they feel like it and there isn’t much the Iranians can do to prevent it.
So if this is a Quid Pro Quo for the stealthy AIP subs, I’d say the Israelis got the better end of the bargain.
No, it wasn’t. Even with Nixon, the Chinese continued to funnel weapons to our enemies and stayed within the Soviet orbit. They even ran guns to American criminals and gangs in the 80s and 90s. They took our money and made us goods, but we didn’t get much of anything else out of it.
Yeah and from what I understand the Krauts are too upset by it either.
