In which case, if true, and members of my family are directly Native American (which is true), they should take a hike.
The Cherokee refer to themselves as Tsalagi (ᏣᎳᎩ) or Aniyvwiyaʔi (ᎠᏂᏴᏫᏯᎢ), which means "Principal People." The earliest Spanish rendering of Cherokee, from 1755, is Tchalaquei. Many known Americans had Cherokee origins.
It’s a stupid way to get attention.
I am sick of it too.

"Them indians are are amateurs. Nobody does a hustle better than old Jussee."

I think I remember many years ago a spokesman for the tribe expressing approval of the car’s name.

Liberal cancel culture corporation getting canceled. Perfect.
In North Dakota, the Sioux tribe closest to the University of North Dakota at Ft. Berthold loved the UND "Fighting Sioux" moniker and the kids could be seen sporting their gear and logo.
All went well for a number of years until the Sioux tribe at Ft. Yates, nearly the opposite end of the state, decided they needed to cash in. Donations of sports gear and scholarships was insufficient to persuade them. They wanted more.
Eventually, UND figured out that if they caved to them, the Sioux tribes in South Dakota and other states in the region would want to cash in next.
So they dropped the name, much to the chagrin of the band at Ft. Berthold for whom the team was originally named and enjoyed a splendid relationship with the university.
