New York Rangers star Artemi Panarin is taking a leave of absence from the team in wake of a politically motivated article from Russia, in which his former Vityaz head coach alleges that the ex-forward of the Moscow Region club beat an 18-year-old girl in Riga, Latvia in 2011, The Post’s Larry Brooks reported Monday morning.
Andrei Nazarov, who is currently the head coach of the KHL’s Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, has repeatedly criticized Panarin for the forward’s outspoken beliefs regarding Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s regime. Nazarov is a known Putin supporter.

I wonder how many Freepers will bash this guy.
(let me know if you want on or off the ping list)
1. Attitude problems or locker room/personality clashes
2. Shady acquaintances
3. Inconsistent performance on the ice
He’s fit right in with the NFL
That article is a confusing mess and way short on facts.
Also - women are just as powerful as men.. in fact, more powerful than men... so isn’t a bar fight like this the epitome of equality?
My favorite Russian hockey team is the Krakamestovshnari Oblesmagtuccispaznayerns.
Their mascot is a dictionary.
He's been famous for long enough that this woman should have come forward by now.
Seems funny that she finally speaks out soon after “The Breadman” criticizes Putin.
I'm more likely to take his side. Unless there is irrefutable photographic evidence.
If true, that only bolsters my theory that professional Russian athletes aren't all that different from professional U.S. athletes.
No Federov, Larionov, or Bure?
The Red Wings probably would have never won a Stanley Cup.
(a little sarcasm sprinkled with the truth)
He is 29. Just to frame it. When he was 19 he allegedly got into a fight with an 18 year old woman.
The NY Rangers PR spin assume that the Coach released that rumor simply for political revenge. Do they know that as a fact? Maybe he’s just jealous that Panarin makes $9 million per year, while he’s making $40K per year as a KHL coach. who knows?
One thing IS obvious - the USA and Russia’s social-political climates and cancel-culture become more similar every day. The communists invented it, after all, so its not at all new to Russia, but Americans are still grappling with their new political reality.
Panarin is listed # 3 on the list - by points scored.
Fedorov left Detroit under a bit of a cloud and is generally disliked by Detroit fans after some contract disputes later in his career.
Bure was immensely talented but also had more than his share of contract-related drama. His initial arrival in the NHL was bogged down by contract squabbles with the Russian sports federation.
When I see some of these stories, I get the impression that Russian hockey players are part of a major organized crime racket with tentacles that reach back to their home country.
Is Nikita Kucherov no longer playing in the NHL? He’s easily got 500+ career points and he’s not even 28 years old.
out for the entire season. TB will miss him.
And the comments in question about Putin are from 2019.
I remembered him from the 1990s as a monster on the ice, so I looked up his profile online. Sure enough -- the dude was 6'5" and 245 pounds. I've been hit by a couple of locomotives like that in my hockey playing days. It ain't fun.
Hes been out since December for a hip surgery procedure.
Don’t know why he was excluded except for the possibility that this is dated 2021. And likely done by a hockey illiterate.
