Over the last six weeks, new cases of infection of the coronavirus have dropped an astonishing 77 percent. Dr. Marty Makary, a professor at Johns Hopkins, wrote an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal and observes: “If a medication slashed cases by 77%, we’d call it a miracle pill.”
Has the number of infections really dropped by 77 percent in 6 weeks?
According to the CDC COVID Data Tracker, there were 283,640 new cases on January 2, 2021. As of February 17, there were 69,165 cases. That represents a drop of 75.05 percent in six weeks — for all you fact-checkers out there.(CDC COVID Data Tracker)
But Makary points out that the vaccine hasn’t been totally responsible for the drop. He makes a strong case that “natural immunity from prior infection is far more common than can be measured by testing.”
Testing has been capturing only from 10% to 25% of infections, depending on when during the pandemic someone got the virus. Applying a time-weighted case capture average of 1 in 6.5 to the cumulative 28 million confirmed cases would mean about 55% of Americans have natural immunity.
Now add people getting vaccinated. As of this week, 15% of Americans have received the vaccine, and the figure is rising fast. Former Food and Drug Commissioner Scott Gottlieb estimates 250 million doses will have been delivered to some 150 million people by the end of March.
Makary is predicting “herd immunity” by April. He realizes that herd immunity is a loaded political phrase, but he’s got the evidence to back it up.

Watch for deaths from the flu, pneumonia, and heart attacks to go up, up, up.>>> Yes and we must wear masks to prevent heart attacks.
Ha ha .... what are the odds?
I mean redefine death, period. Not covid death. It was a joke. Sorry you didn’t get it. But they did redefine “covid cases” right about the time Biden was inaugurated, and suddenly there’s less cases. Bu t they can’t redefine death, so the cases go down but not the deaths.
And if someone dies in a motorcycle accident but tests positive for covid, is that a covid death?
Do you think all the deaths that occurred after taking the vaccine are a coincidence? Just because someone took the vaccine and then died, doesn’t mean they died as an adverse reaction to the vaccine. (I actually believe this statement, at least partly.)
But the corollary is, just because someone tests positive and dies, doesn’t mean they died from covid.
That would be easily provable medicare fraud. No hospital wants that kind of scrutiny. Furthermore, if someone dies in a motorcycle crash, he/she isn't going to get tested for Covid. If they survive long enough to get admitted to the ICU, they'll get swabbed as a matter of routine. If they are positive, they'll go to a Covid ICU and their level of care just increased dramatically and the hospital has every right to be reimbursed for that extra level of care. they will not be compensated any more or less if they then die of/with Covid. The extra reimbursement occurs when the person tested positive.
And somebody in a bad motorcycle accident who also has Covid may very well die as a result of the Covid, especially if they made it to the floor. if they make it out of the ER, Covid is probably more likely to kill them than the accident.
Do you think all the deaths that occurred after taking the vaccine are a coincidence?
You know what we like to say: YMMV. I did just fine with the vaccine but, YMMV. maybe the vaccine did kill them. I don't know. It's a pretty small percentage of the 200 million vaccines that have been administered though.
But the corollary is, just because someone tests positive and dies, doesn’t mean they died from covid.
I can't argue with that other than to say it is an argument that attempts to undermine the legitimacy of all or most Covid deaths because a handful of them may have been erroneous. What's more, I think that was probably far more common during wave 1 when there was just mass chaos and confusion. We didn't even have reliable tests back then. It isn't that way now.

No doubt about it, President Trump was betrayed by almost everyone. That their actions wrecked innocent lives meant less to them than making President Trump look bad.
‘It simply does not take rocket science to understand that which is predictable as sunrise.’
no doubt, but what fun would the forum be if we didn’t, well, speculate...?
‘There is no conspiracy to count people as covid deaths who aren’t actually covid deaths.’
sure, sure, of course not...
‘No hospital wants that kind of scrutiny.’
scrutiny is always the first casualty when the TPTB determine they want something to happen, that may in fact not be happening...
