Sen. John Thune is criticizing Republican activists and party leaders for engaging in “cancel culture” by rushing to censure GOP senators who found former President Donald Trump guilty of inciting an insurrection.
In his first interview since he voted to acquit Trump, the Senate’s No. 2 Republican on Thursday defended fellow Republicans who sided with Democrats on the “vote of conscience” and warned against shutting out dissenting voices in the party.
“There was a strong case made,” Thune said of the Democrats’ impeachment presentation. “People could come to different conclusions. If we’re going to criticize the media and the left for cancel culture, we can’t be doing that ourselves.”
Thune’s remarks were his first explaining his vote in Trump’s trial and assessing the turbulent GOP politics the former president has left behind. Thune, who is facing reelection next year in deeply conservative South Dakota, is among several establishment Republicans grappling with how to reclaim control of a party dominated by Trump and his most ardent supporters for years.

Sec Transportation Elaine Chao’s sister, Angela Chao, just happens to be on the board of directors of the Communist Chinese government’s Bank of China
and
Cocaine McConnell and Honeypot Chao pocketed ~$25 million from her father, James Chao, running the Foremost Group shipping company with the Chinese government
and
Elaine Chao’s family’s company Foremost Group obtained 10 massive cargo ships from the Communist Chinese government’s China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC)
and
Elaine Chao’s sister Angela Chao just happens to be on the board of one of the Communist Chinese government’s largest military contractor.
He had his chance to REPRESENT the people of So. Dakota, they were screaming and he turned a deaf ear. Go flip hamburgers at McDonalds sir.
Wow. First time I ever heard Thune say anything about cancel culture or the war on America and he uses it against Republicans. What good is he?
Guys like the RINOs we’re going after have nothing to do with anything resembling culture, unless it’s the culture of organized crime. Sure, we’d like to cancel organized crime.

Thune is a jerk. McConnell still has a megaphone and a platform, from which to spew. He has not been “cancelled”.

Okay, the lines are drawn. We now have confirmed that there are a number of disloyal party members who have overtly and covertly tried to undermine Trump, right out of the gate, and right to the end.
IT started with Paul Ryan, who squashed the wall project, when it could have been passed the first year of Trump’s presidency. Then he ushered out incumbent House members, resulting is us losing the House to Pelosi.
Now we have McConnell, Haley, Cassidy et al showing their cards.....
They have no idea who they’re playing against.
We don’t have the right to “cancel” POLITICIANS we disagree with?
Dude, you hold office solely at the will of the people who elect you. AND who are under no obligation to elect you again! Don’t like it? Don’t run!
It’s amazing that GOP voters and their senators accept such corrupt family associations with a foreign power. Well, then again maybe not. There are a lot of gullible people in the GOP. Just saying.

You’re right; they won’t quit. They are deeply entrenched and determined to ‘hold’ the party at all costs. That’s why trying to reform the GOP is futile and a waste of our time. The party establishment will do anything to maintain the corrupt apparatus.
And they know exactly who they are playing with. They’ve defeated efforts to reform the party for decades. They understand their real opponents very well and are very adept at manipulating them.
Don’t underestimate their staying power.
