Texas Sen. Ted Cruz admitted Thursday that traveling to Cancun, Mexico as his constituents suffered in freezing homes amid power outages was "obviously a mistake."
The Republican spoke outside his Texas home as a sizable group of protesters chanted just yards away.
"It was obviously a mistake, and in hindsight, I wouldn't have done it," Cruz acknowledged. He reiterated his previous contention that he had gone in order to take his daughters to Mexico to get them out of the cold. "I was trying to be a dad," he said. "When you've got two girls who have been cold for two days and haven't had heat or power, and they're saying 'Look, we don't have school, why don't we go - let's get out of here . . . " The senator will join Sean Hannity Thursday night on Hannity at 9pm et.

It’s not about the election.he acted like a soy boy.
That's what a real man would do.
I think he is content for the moment. He’s a good guy. We like him here in Texas.
I remember that.
The worst disaster to hit the state in a generation. Many are saying the damage has been worse than a hurricane.
Preplanned or not, this was not the time to go on vacation to a resort town in Mexico.
Even if you can’t do anything, as one of the state’s most important politicians, you have to at least look like you are concerned about what is going on.
Cruz is certainly one of the leaders for the 2024 nomination, but he has a history of making these kind of tone-deaf political mistakes.
Nah, it was Heidi
It looks like it played out like this
It’s cold. The house is freezing. Let’s go to Cancun and have some fun with Goldman Sachs friends and neighbors.
Then he tries to blame it on the girls.
This would be fine if he wasn’t an elected official.
He can no longer blast the Dems for pulling the kind of stunt that he just pulled.
Reminds me of Nikki Haley who, while governor, skipped the state during huge flooding. Yet media made no fuss.
What can he do about state issues? Texas' energy failure is on the governor and state officials, not federal.
“Never apologize! Never!”
I’m not reading where he did apologize. He admits he made a mistake. But I don’t see where he is sorry for it. He was just trying to be a “good dad”.
He is done.
I don’t mind him either, truth be told. But to be so tone deaf, to not be able to anticipate what the left will do at any moment says something about his political acumen that is not positive.
“What can he do about state issues? Texas’ energy failure is on the governor and state officials, not federal.”
Be that as it may, Cruz himself said he was coming back from Cancun to “get to the bottom of things”.
You’d think that ONE PERSON in his inner circle (family, friends, assistants, etc.) would have told him just HOW STUPID this trip was if he got caught.
My guess is that, given Cruz’s personality, many wanted to warn him, but were afraid to.
I dont know about that.
It sounds like this was a Heidi idea. He went along with it.
Then tried to blame the kids but that has blown up in his face.
Tried to claim he was always coming back today...that blew up in his face
What he does from here will tell the tale
His instincts are so bad he needs to hire a crisis manager to help him through this
Oh please. He can be a leader and a role model or an as# hole. He chose the latter.
That's what a real man would do.
He has a pair. I remember Code Pink harassing him and he invited them up to debate him. He won.
Yep.
For a very smart man and a skilled debater he makes some foolish mistakes. I would vote for him if I lived in Texas. But he will never be
President. No matter how much CruzBots wish it.
