‘Wanted to Be a Good Dad’: Ted Cruz Responds to Criticism He Traveled to Cancun Amid Texas Power Crisis
The Epoch Times ^ | 2/18/21 | Jack Phillips

Posted on 02/18/2021 3:01:21 PM PST by Bearshouse

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) responded to allegations that he flew to Cancun, Mexico, in the midst of record cold temperatures and snowfall in Texas—which has been besieged by power outages over the past several days.

Cruz appeared to confirm that he went to Cancun, saying that “with school canceled for the week, our girls asked to take a trip with friends. Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon.”

“My staff and I are in constant communication with state and local leaders to get to the bottom of what happened in Texas,” he said in a statement on Thursday, referring to the power outages and, in some cases, loss of water.

Leaving to go on vacation in time of a statewide disaster was a huge mistake.

You don't know Texas. You don't appear to have a clue of the voters in Texas who have voted for Cruz and will again. All those you think will be so offended by this contrived tempest in teapot would vote for a Beto type, a touchy feeling California soy boy type.

I lived in the mid-west for 15 years. I lived in Missouri,
Arkansas, and Texas.

While I don’t know Texans as well as you do and wouldn’t
pretend to, I think you’re insults betray you rather than
me here.

Over a million people out of power and heat, and you have
determined that someone would have to be a soy-boy to find
fault with Ted going on vacation in a temperate zone while
his fellow Texans were in extreme trouble.

Well, you’re welcome to that view, even if it is wild ass
off target.

Cruz’ wife being a [former?] member of the CFR is always problematic for me.

It was -20F at night here for a few daze of late.

Grid stayed up, but I was prepared to survive.

Why wouldn’t all Americans expect to prepare themselves for a week or two of the wurst?

That was interesting wasn’t it.

I haven’t thought of that in a while.

It bothered me also.

You are clueless. How many of those 1 million do you think are all clamoring for Ted Cruz to DO SOMETHING? Only in your mind.

What powers does a US Senator have in a state emergency? None. That is why they have a governor and their own legislature and a Natl Guard.

He doesn’t have to apologize for being a dad.

I agree. I’ve purchased some power supplies, and should be
able to go a week or more with no problem.

I generally have a pretty good supply of food in the home
and can go three months if I had to. I just did it.

Over a million people out of power and heat,

I'd bet NONE of those 1 million are clamoring for Ted Cruz to DO ANYTHING. You must think they are all idiots. They are not. Many are self-reliant. Most know who will provide any aid they need. They know Ted Cruz can't fix the electric, Ted Cruz can't fix their water. Ted Cruz can't loan them money. Ted Cruz can't fix broken pipes. Ted Cruz can't DO DIDDLY FOR THEM. They could give a damn about some vapid meaningless "I care" posturing. That will not help them in the least with real problems.

So screech all you want how so many of them are so offended that Ted Cruz is not running to help this very moment but that is all some figment of your imagination.

You poor thing.

You really can’t grasp this topic, so instead you attack me
when Wonder Boy Cruz was the real dumb ass.

With one million people in Texas without power in sub-zero
weather, Ted thought it a wise idea to vacation in a
tropical zone.

Could Ted help people in his state? Evidently you don’t
think a sitting Senator from Texas should.

Nah, he should just go off and have fun.

Even Ted disagrees with you, but hey, keep prattling on.

Yeah, this all about me. I’m the one who screwed up and
of course Ted doesn’t agree with me, even though he hot
footed it back from Cancun.

I suspect Ted will find some ways to encourage his fellow
Texans over the next few days.

Pay attention. You’ll learn something.

Ted Cruz can't DO DIDDLY FOR THEM.

That may be true but since Abbott's asked for federal disaster relief there are things he should be able to do.

There's aid to coordinate and legislation to draft to make sure the residents get their relief.

Maybe they can count on Cornyn.

No, evidently I know he really can't. But you can tell everyone what meaningful real world things he could do now, this week. Now is your big chance. And please, don't just prattle off some vague vapid platitudes - "He should show he cares..."

To: BiglyCommentary; Joe 6-pack

This was just written to Joe 6-pack.

Thanks for your comments, and I agree with them.

You know, I’ll bet some of these people can’t understand why
a military superior tours the hospital after a campaign when
a number of his men have been injured.

He can’t heal them. He can’t take away their pain. He can’t
make it so nothing bad happened to them.

There are many things he can’t do, but he can look at those
men in the eye and be one with them for a few minutes.

He can express his sorrow, let them know he cares, and let
them know he hurts because they do.

He will encourage them. He will tell them how proud he is
of them. He will declare them heroes and explain as best
he can how much they accomplished that they may not have
been aware of.

Class shows class.

Pay attention. You’ll learn something.

Evidently you learned nothing and have not been paying attention else you would have read the dozens of posts that detailed who actually authorizes, coordinates, and distributes any help to your 1 million.

and returned from Cancun.

Lame example. Soldiers in a hospital are all getting help already. You 1 million are not. They could give a damn about some politician saying he cares. They really only care about immediate, real aid. An military equivalent example would be wounded men all laying wounded on a battle field and their commander looks them each in the eye, tells him he cares and then drives off in a jeep.
