Prediction: NASA Will Not Find Life on Mars
February 17, 2021 | David F. Coppedge
The Perseverance rover is scheduled to land today. As usual, the search for life is a priority for the mission.
Our prediction that no life will be found on Mars is based on history, probability, the harshness of the Mars environment and the complexity of a minimal cell. We should qualify the prediction by stipulating that if any sign of life is found, it will turn out to be remnants of Earth life that somehow got transported to Mars, perhaps by a glancing meteorite.
We can also add another prediction: a null finding will not stop NASA from looking for life on Mars. It’s impossible to prove a universal negative, for one thing. And NASA knows that the L word life is a sexy term to maintain public interest in Mars missions. NASA will keep at it even if a sample return mission brings back a sterile sample of Martian soil, because even then they could claim they looked in the wrong place.

The modern theory of evolution is based upon the quaint notion that a human body is no more complex then a statue. It's from the same era that believed that maggots spontaneously come from rotten meat. They had no clued about just how complex nature really was. It's the epitome of irony that those who believe this today are the ones who are the most backwards scientifically.
21 For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will again.
The last line of this verse has always led me to believe that there are no other planets with humans or any free will life forms, because they would come to the same fallen state that we are in.
I would think robots could create more habitable base location for future human settlements and exploration. It seems wiser for several missions devoted to building up some infrastructure (as self sustaining as possible) wouldn’t be a bad idea before landing humans.
Definitely. A manned mission to Mars now is premature. It’s like forcing clean energy. The technology just isn’t there yet and the cost is prohibitive.
More research is needed and I’m confident there will be breakthroughs. I like your approach. It is like laying a foundation.
It would make a huge difference. This should be pretty obvious.
NASA somehow thinks that finding life sells, or what?
Of course it sells. When is the last times humans had solid tangible evidence life existed outside earth?
Maybe I exaggerated a little.
However:
It is pretty obvious, that there are no Martians.
And, it have been more-less proven that there is no life on Mars. Forgot the reference, but the analysis of Martian atmosphere have not found any traces of life effects. Life would presumably change the atmosphere, generating oxygen or something like that?
Just scratching my memory, excuse me.
I agree that if they found something, it would be interesting, but they will find NOTHING.
Basically, I am fed up by all these expeditions, SETI’s, etc, etc. Always trying to find life somewhere.
Can we just do basic science, instead trying to find some life somewhere?!
Finding life somewhere seems to me really wasting my tax money.
I am actually science wonk and ardent astronomer, but I have seen so many worthless expeditions and projects, all trying to find life somewhere, I am just fed up with that Sisyphean efforts. Sorry to you, who have not yet reached this stage! You probably will soon.
Al of those 10s of billions ...for what?
Mars is dead Jim.
Quit wasting my tax
Dollars on a dead horse.
