Prediction: NASA Will Not Find Life on Mars

February 17, 2021 | David F. Coppedge

The Perseverance rover is scheduled to land today. As usual, the search for life is a priority for the mission.

Our prediction that no life will be found on Mars is based on history, probability, the harshness of the Mars environment and the complexity of a minimal cell. We should qualify the prediction by stipulating that if any sign of life is found, it will turn out to be remnants of Earth life that somehow got transported to Mars, perhaps by a glancing meteorite.

We can also add another prediction: a null finding will not stop NASA from looking for life on Mars. It’s impossible to prove a universal negative, for one thing. And NASA knows that the L word life is a sexy term to maintain public interest in Mars missions. NASA will keep at it even if a sample return mission brings back a sterile sample of Martian soil, because even then they could claim they looked in the wrong place.

It would be exponentially easier to colonize Antarctica, or the bottom of the ocean, than to colonize Mars.

I think you might see a confirmation of life on Mars. The pentagon in foia requests have admitted retrieving and experimenting on craft not of this world. They won’t touch the part about who or what was flying them yet. The navy seems willing to talk about such things but the Air Force, CIA and NASA won’t go there yet. I don’t have a clue about the objects in the navy released videos but such maneuvers would kill a human pilot.

The search for life elsewhere is an important mission of NASA and science in general and will continue... to be fruitless

Fixed it for ya.

“I Think they did find remains of Ralph Kramden’s wife Edith on the moon.”

I think you mean Alice.

I hope they are not spending too much money on the biology part of the mission. Even if they do find life, it will be microbial. We have plenty of microbes on Earth. I would focus on identifying mineral resources.

On the other hand I guess it would probably be a good idea to have a token biology experiment on board since that is what captivates the media.

It’s a deep subject. The universe is so vast that it may be teeming with life and yet it’s also possible man may never find any evidence of it. We’re just scratching the surface at this point.

Well I don’t know. Who ever thought life could exist in deep ocean volcanic gaseous ocean vents?
One never knows.

“The universe is so vast that it may be teeming with life...”

It might also be teeming with giant marshmallow men, but it’s not. Modern man just hangs all of his hopes on one extraordinarily unlikely supposition because he despises admitting the consequences of that supposition not being true.

Most people do not really understand how vast the universe is. They estimate there are hundred of billions of galaxies. The nearest real galaxy is Andromeda which is 2.5 million light years away.

I would claim that Man will never explore Andromeda or the other hundreds of billions of galaxies. The distances are too great.

The Milky Way is hundreds of light years across. I doubt we ever explore more than a subset of our own galaxy.

Stupid commentary, IMO. While it is extremely doubtful that they could find actual life, the real effort here is to find EVIDENCE of life. Big difference.

Does the bible claim Earth is the only planet created for life?

No. I've often wondered about this. How logical is it to assume that God would create a dead universe?

There will never be life found anywhere IF we think life just magically “evolved” here on earth . Our bodies are composed of trillions of biological micromachines none of which have a purpose or could have evolved independently. They are intrinsically involved with each other and work together in ways we’re not even close to understanding. Mathematically it is IMPOSSIBLE for them to have randomly occurred.
