TAMPA (WFLA) — A Florida lawmaker has requested Gov. Ron DeSantis order the state’s flags lowered to half-staff in honor of the passing of Rush Limbaugh. Limbaugh was a Palm Beach, Florida resident.
The request was made by Republican Rep. Anthony Sabatini, who has served in the Florida House of Representatives since 2018 and represents the state’s 32nd House district in part of Lake County.
Today I sent a letter to Governor DeSantis requesting the lowering of Florida’s flags to half-staff in honor of the passing of a great Floridian—Rush Limbaugh.

— Rep. Anthony Sabatini (@AnthonySabatini) February 17, 2021 Sabatini, in his letter to Gov. DeSantis, called Limbaugh “a champion of the constitution, civic engagement, and a true American patriot.”
DeSantis has yet to respond to the letter.
Sabatini is the same lawmaker who made headlines last month by supporting an amendment to rename a major Florida highway after Donald Trump. He said he will be sponsoring a bill in the upcoming legislative session that would rename U.S. Highway 27 to “President Donald J. Trump Highway.”
“Looking forward to working on this important designation honoring one of the greatest Presidents in American History,” Sabatini said.
The Florida Legislature meets every year for 60 days. This year, Florida’s lawmakers will meet March 2.

Mine were lowered this morning, and several of my neighbors followed suit.
Why wait for DeSantis.
If you’re a private citizen and flying Old Glory on a vertical staff/mast, lower it.
My pole is one of those telescopic ones. Otherwise I’d do it. How about a National Holiday?

FWIW, I’d wait to see what Limbaugh’s family has planned, if they’re going to hold a memorial for the public.
Depending on what the family does/wants, I think folks should organize in places like FR, co-ordinate if we like, and do our own thing.
I think Limbaugh would like it that way.

Why is there not a flags at half staff order from the White House?
Why is there no indication from Congress that Rush will lie in State?
Not even a State Funeral.
Odd thing, the flag at my local fire station has been at half staff for 3 or 4 weeks................
Limbaugh wasn’t just a celebrity.
The man was a patriot.
The patriot deserves the honor.

I reluctantly agree on both counts.
(In fact, I don’t even like to see the flag lowered for presidents. It smacks too much of treating then like kings. But I guess that debate is for another time.)
Flags in NY have been half staff for all of 2020 and still...covid?
I think ours started sometime around January 20, at noon or so................
I hope the FD has a handy excuse ready to cover for the real one.;-)
Cuomo has flags in NYS at half mast, due to so many (nursing home) covid deaths...can't make this stuff up.

Can you even dare to imagine the SchiffStorm that would be raised if there were to be a ‘George Floyd’ type funeral/nationwide tour event?
First off it would be disallowed along the lines of an R get together which amazingly gets an immediate spike in ‘cases’ if more than 3 Rs gather in the same block yet hundreds of AF/BLM types can plunder and loot without a single ‘case’ or any arrest as a result.
WE ARE SO SCREWED....
Cuomo recklessly killed thousands of seniors (negligent homicide), then he had the state flags lowered for them? Wow. The man has no shame. And as you said, you can’t make this stuff up.
If we can lower the flag for Ruth Buzzi Ginzburg who hated the U.S. Constitution, we sure as hell can lower it for Rush who defended the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
There are specific specific dates, titles and events which merit this honor. The Dems threw those out the window when they lowered the flag for Whitney. Made me sick as a retired Chief Pretty Officer. Never should have happened.
Don’t get me twisted, love me some El Rushbo, but his passing doesn’t merit this type of honor.
