Duke Energy continues solar expansion in Florida
The Capitolist ^ | February 16th 2021 | Jordan Kirkland

Duke Energy Florida is continuing their mission to bring cleaner, cost-effective energy to consumers, breaking ground on several new solar sites in the Sunshine State.

The company made the announcement on Tuesday, stating that they would be constructing new solar power facilities in Manatee and Hardee counties. The new sites, which are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2021, is expected to create approximately 200 to 300 temporary jobs. Additionally, the plants will generate quiet, carbon free energy that will bring tax benefits to the counties.

The Florida utility company, a subsidiary of Duke Energy headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, also announced that they will begin construction on an additional solar facility in Bay County by mid-year.

“Duke Energy Florida is delivering on what customers want: innovative, affordable and sustainable clean energy solutions,” said (Duke Energy President) Melissa Seixas. “We are committed to environmental stewardship and more fuel diversity. Customers can expect us to continue our expansion of solar energy for many years to come."

"The utility argues that their “Clean Energy Connection Program” will benefit all of its customers because the solar projects would ultimately reduce the need to build costly natural-gas plants and would help reduce carbon emissions."

Barf. What a waste, just to make Lefties feel good about themselves. Leftism is horribly expensive in dollars and lives.

“...Duke Energy Florida, shared the good news that the power company had struck a deal to construct a solar energy facility off County Road 386, on the western edge of the county, between Overstreet and Wewahitchka....”

This is already shovels in the ground...about 4 miles from me here in Mexico Beach.

Per the Energy Information Agency, solar produced a whopping 1.7% of all electricity in the US in 2019, the latest year a full year’s data is available.

https://www.eia.gov/totalenergy/data/monthly/pdf/sec7_5.pdf

It is very high-cost electricity, and storage issues for overnight are very expensive, really an unsolved problem.

FPL has about the lowest rates in the country last I checked. No real need for Duke here.

Just like Cresent Dunes Solar plant up by Tonopah NV.

That one worked real good. After the SOBs raided the grant money it went broke. 1 billion dollars.

I have to say that my light pole in front of my home is a solar. We all have them in front of our homes in our development of 77 homes in Florida. I’m the only one with solar (I bought it from Lowe’s). I laugh as they change out their “eye” and lightbulbs all the time. Solar is not all bad.

First question to Duke Energy ...... At what cost to the taxpayers of Florida?

There’s nothing wrong with solar at all, as long as it is your private voluntary choice to install it and use it. Same with wind power, although it’s more difficult to get your own personal turbine I suppose. Even if a utility wants to go green with it, that’s fine, as long as they don’t exploit subsidies and tax breaks to support an uneconomical venture just for the sake of harvesting tax dollars.. The problem is always the abuse of taxpayers money and legal regulations that exploit the citizen for the benefit of politicians and the well connected. That’s where freedom is stomped on by corruption.

“Get ready for rolling blackouts as a fact of life.”

Duke is pushing customers here in NC to go on the “load management” program where Duke can remotely shut off air conditioners, water heaters in residences in order to manage peak power loads. It also offers incredible deals for “smart” thermostats. I have no doubt the long term plan is for the government and utility to determine how much energy each household should consume and use “smart” devices to control usage. After all, we need to fight climate change.

For 75 Megawatts, total, supposedly for the year 2021. Check how long it takes conventional power plants to generate that-—

Nuclear power plant, for example R.E.Ginna plant operates at 24 hour capacity of 582 MegaWatts. So— in 3 hours and 6 minutes... 75 MW.

An entire year of this 600 acre misuse of arable tillable growable agricultural land— to generate what a modern plant can generate in 3 hours and 6 minutes.

This is CRIMINAL, this pseudo efficiency.

Apples to Tomato’s.......

You have solar lights, awesome. I have solar lights on my walkway. Cool.

But, im not forcing my neighbors to pay for them. The county commission isn’t forcing my neighbors of pay for them. You’re not forcing your neighbors to pay for your solar light, right?

The issues with all of this is these companies they promise rainbows and lollipops and the taxpayers foot the bill with no say in the matter.

Yup. It was the “state of the art” solar plant. They focused on a huge sphere on top of a tower which was full of salt. The salt was the storage system because it melted and stored heat for a time which would keep the production of steam going to turn the turbins.

When you drove up that way you could see that thing for MILES. Like a super white candle. I asked about it at a truck stop at Tonopah and all I got is “its the biggest joke ever in this part of the country” answer.

BTW, just north of that town there has been a series of earthquakes not seen ever in this nation. The shakers cross Highway 93 and the numbers are in the thousands now. Just south of Mina NV and east of the Long Valley Caldera. There are “extinct” volcanos there.
