Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the federal government is launching the long-promised buyback program for what he has described as “assault” or “assault-style” firearms.
The buyback program is part of a suite of new gun control measures promised by the federal Liberals in the 2019 election campaign, and follows the announcement of an executive order last May that changed the classification listings to prohibit roughly 1,500 “assault-style” weapons.
While terms like “assault-style” and “assault rifle” are not legal classifications in Canada, they are frequently used colloquially by gun control advocates and the government to describe the type of high-capacity, quick-fire guns targeted by the ban.
Automatic firearms are already prohibited in Canada, as are high-capacity magazines.

It’s to solidly the suburban Karen vote, who are upset with the disruption to school attendance and Trudeau’s disastrous vaccine rollout. Harass lawful long gun owners and turn a blind eye to all the illegal handguns held by the urban gangbangers.

there may be and are many many peole who should not be possessing, using, holding or even smelling handguns “illegally” but the handguns themselves are not per se “illegal”....my puny-assed Phoenex .22lr in the hands of some gangbanger is not itself “illegal” but is illegally held by the gangbanger....

What you point out is exactly right.They are private property and the feds have no factual basis for confiscating them.
Personal Property is the constitutional purview of the Provinces, not the Federal Government.The feds allege co- jurisdiction with the Provinces on property as a criminal law jurisdiction, whichi is federal. But the facts show that no fellony crimes were committed by registered gun owners in the last 40 years.
The majority of gun owners of so called assault rifles will cling bitterly to their bibles and guns. But if one is caught using an assault rifle for hunting or target practice, it wll be a felony crime, and they also cannot be transferred or bequeathed but must allegedly be destroyed upon the owners death, if owners keep them.
This law has not passed yet, but the bill will be heard on the floor of Parliament this week or next.
The price of cosmoline has gone up because of demand.If the law passes it willnot stand a change of government. If the Coonservatioves get in they will repeal it.
