Britt Reid is alleged to have caused the three-car pile-up and is being investigated by cops for possible driving under the influence after admitting to drinking prior to the smash.
The 35-year-old linebackers coach for the NFL giants suffered minor injuries during the February 4 crash.
Reid's pickup smashed into two stationary cars, injuring two children aged four and five, cops in Kansas say.
The girl who was seriously injured, identified as Ariel, has now woken up from a coma, according to an update to a GoFundMe page posted by her aunt, Tiffany Verhulst.
"Ariel is awake," said Verhulst.
Reid told police he had “two or three drinks” and had a prescription for Adderall when the accident occurred, according to a search warrant.
After the Super Bowl LV - which the Chiefs lost 31-9 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Britt's father spoke candidly about what had happened.
“My heart goes out to those involved, the family of those little girls fighting for their lives,’’ Andy Reid said after the game.
"From a human standpoint, my heart bleeds for them.’’
Reid refused to use the incident as an excuse for his side's loss, pointing out “the game plan was put in a week ago’.’
“From a human standpoint, yeah, it’s a tough one,’’ he said, according to the New York Post.
“From a football standpoint … two separate things. From a football standpoint, I don’t think that was the problem.’’
Britt Reid allegedly admitted having "two or three drinks" on top of prescription drugs before the crash near the NFL side's stadium.
Police reportedly said they could smell alcohol on Reid, and his eyes were bloodshot.
The older of the two girls was left in a "in very critical condition" after suffering swelling and bleeding on the brain, according to her family.
Verhulst posted heartbreaking photos of her cousin's daughter Ariel in hospital.
Thousands of dollars have now been raised for the seriously injured youngster who has been left in coma.
According to a GoFundMe for the girl more than $487,000 has now raised from 12,300
"Ariel, 5 years old, suffered swelling in and bleeding in and around the brain. She is in critical condition and hasn’t woken since the crash," GoFundMe page read.
"Ariel will be in the hospital for the foreseeable future, this is set up for the hospital bills and weeks of missed work that will come.
"No child deserves to go through this, nor should any mother have to see her child like this."
The incident report provided by the Kansas City Missouri Police department police reportedly said that a car ran out of gas on an on-ramp to Interstate 435 in Kansas City.
After the driver called relatives for help, a second car arrived, also parked on the on-ramp.
According to the police report, a third car, which local news outlet KSHB said was driven by Britt Reid, came along and struck the left front of the disabled vehicle, before slamming into the rear of the second vehicle.
The five-year-old child was sat in the backseat, along with a four-year-old child, who was also taken to an area hospital by ambulance, but with non-life-threatening injuries.
Reid joined the Chiefs in 2013 as a defensive assistant and worked his way through the ranks to become the outside linebackers coach in 2019.
Following the crash, he was placed on leave through the duration of his contract, which has since expired.
Parenting is no guarantee of outcome.........
What would you do when a piranha news crew surrounds you with microphones? Do you really think he called up the MSM and said I have something to say?
It never works that way bro......
I’m going to wait and see how this unfolds. There is nothing about his actual blood alcohol level, or whether the cars were parked so that he couldn’t see them as he approached, or what the details are. Sometimes accidents are just that.
What is the deal with coach’s relatives working for them. I imagine it’s more nepotism than it is being qualified for the job. If this guy has such a drug and alcohol program, he never should have gotten this job in the first place.
“If this guy has such a drug and alcohol program, he never should have gotten this job in the first place.”
Hunter Biden?
Good point, but Hunter didn’t need a job to make millions from his family’s corruption. This NFL team was pretending Reid was actually contributing something to the organization.
You can. e a wonderful parent and still have children turn to drugs and alcohol.
“Good point, but Hunter didn’t need a job to make millions from his family’s corruption.”
...he needed a “job” to make MORE millions from his family’s corruption.
but I get you point :)
It makes you wonder if there is anything like justice in this country now that Hunter is still not in jail, and Biden is president. It’s third-world level corruption.
I’m sorry about what happened to your brother.
That’s something one never fully ‘gets over’.
I lost my youngest sister to natural causes back in 2016.
She was 54. y.o.
Sometimes I have to remind myself that she’s not here to talk with anymore.
Chiefs may get sued as there are stories that he was at a Chiefs event
Leaving a child in a car parked on an interstate ramp isn’t a good idea.
And getting ON an interstate with no gas in the tank doesn’t show good judgment, either.
As for the ramps - it looks like most of the ones along there are wide with good shoulders, but at least one of them was narrow with a wall on one side and a ditch on the other. So without knowing the actual location, it’s hard to determine how poor the judgment was in leaving a car full of children there.
I get that persons of color that run on fumes are less likely to have Triple A or a competing roadside assistance program, but asking a friend or neighbor to watch the kids while bringing a can of gas might have been the better option (unless they were planning on using a Georgia Credit Card to move gas from one tank to the other).
Same here, but I don't equate my siblings' divorces to a heroin overdose death at the Eagles training camp or the DUI near death of a five year old. Especially when the family was raised Mormon where that sort of thing is supposedly unconscionable. So, Andy Reid a horrible parent? Yes, without a doubt, and I cannot understand your defense of him.
The NFL don’t care until you stop producing and/or cause too much embarrassment.
Pretty clear who the spiritual leader of the household was when the boys were growing up.
My reading is one car ran out of gas on an interstate ramp. Running out of gas on the interstate is not illegal but it isn’t very smart either. Having a car in the breakdown lane, I believe at night, is very dangerous. Having a second car join you with small kids is not illegal but adds to the stupidity particularly if they park behind you. I also wonder if a dad was in the picture? I gather the small kids could not have been left home. Doesn’t excuse the coach’s son but people make bad choices which increases their risks.
Regarding the coach, I have read it can be difficult to be a child of a famous parent. It is doubly difficult if your dad is a high demand job like an NFL coach.
All one can do is say prayers for all those involved and others involved in similar circumstances that do not reach MSM consciousness. It is a difficult time for all involved.
You are an idiot.

Thank you for your kind words.
Why not, it was the son of a Chief's coach..................Pathetic BS
