Germany is expected to become the first country to ban mass culling of male chicks in the poultry industry, the government said after approving a draft law ending the controversial practice. The measure passed by the cabinet envisages a ban on mass chick killing from 2022 in “a significant step forward for animal welfare”, the agriculture minister, Julia Klöckner, said in a statement on Wednesday.

Male chick’s are unwanted. Chick’s are sexed and males are tossed headfirst into a sort of a blender disposal to turn into protein.
Culling? or was it that pesky fox that keeps getting into the cock house?
Caponizing neuters the male and the resulting capones are used for fryers.
I doubt any of these people have lived around a lot of roosters. And what are they going to do with them? Use them for meat? That’s the same a culling. Let them run around? they’ll cull each other.
Great. I don’t have chickens, but I understand roosters can be vicious and ruthless. And if they won’t let them kill baby male chicks, I suppose they aren’t going to let them castrate older male chicks, either. I predict the average chicken farm will be a bloody mess.

No, they are inferior eating so they are just culled and ground up for fertilizer, feed supplements etc.
Well actually my grandmother had a great way to deal with roosters. She boiled the meat off the bone, saved the fat filled water, chopped up the meat added it back to the water along with her home made relish and chopped vegetables. She may have added some type of gelatin, not sure. Anyway, she poured the mixture into a glass bread pan and stuck in the fridge. Not sure how long it took, but in the end you had essentially chicken souse. Awesome sandwiches with a little horseradish, mayo or mustard. I have tried over the years to duplicate that recipe and never could. Her cook book did not contain the recipe so it was probably something she learned and never wrote down. She was a farmers wife who lived through the Great Depression, no food went to waste. I loved her BBQ raccoon.
