Jemele Hill: The Mavericks Were Right, the Anthem No Longer Belongs in American Sports
Breitbart ^ | February 14 2021 | WARNER TODD HUSTON

Posted on 02/15/2021 2:20:00 AM PST by knighthawk

Atlantic writer Jemele Hill is sticking up for Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban for canceling the playing of the national anthem and saying that we should no longer play the song at sporting events.

The former ESPN host blasted the national anthem in her first sentence in her Feb. 14 article, entitled, The Problem With Mandatory Patriotism in Sports.

“Playing the “The Star-Spangled Banner” at sporting events has become an empty gesture of patriotism,” Hill wrote with her first few words.

I think that perhaps Ms. Hill should emigrate to a country that she actually can love.

Send them all to communist China and tell them to take a knee when required to praise the biggest mass murderer of his own people.

It is alright for me. I don’t watch pro sports anymore. Just hope the red white and blue motifs go away also. Their uniforms should be ALL BLACK.

I don’t know, I’m coming around to accept this now. Sports activities have now been co-opted by traitorous basterds who schitt on the flag and pee on the anthem at evey game. I’m so sick of watching this disrespectful travesty aided and abetted by the team owners and other sports organizations that I don’t want to give them a platform to continue their venomous treachery. Of course, I won’t be attending any of the games either, but it’s all good!

I never understood the fixation of sports fans on this “patriotic virtue-signaling” among sports franchises. Let’s stand up and sign the national anthem before sitting down and watching a bunch of illiterate mutants run around on the field. Meanwhile, the same guy two rows back who was scolding people around him during the national anthem and telling them to remove their hats is making a drunken ass of himself by the third quarter.

Of course a racist would say just this kind of thing.

America is not racist (or wasn’t, before the wholesale adoption of Black Lives Matter) so...it follows that she wouldn’t want to hear something that reinforces that.

The owners of all sports are driven by onev single question: can we squeeze money out of it?

I think a lot of good comes from loving and respecting our nation. The US has led the world in wealth, innovation, and strength for many years. We haven’t used our power to take over any nations even though we easily could.

We should be proud of that.

But maybe the progressives are on to something. It IS much more difficult to be patriotic when they’re in power.

Jemele Hill is nothing but a racist. As a result, it is not worth reading or listening to anything that spews from her contaminated pie hole.

I am not sure that is the complete answer. If it were (to make more money) I would be inclined to appreciate that point of view. After all, the profit motive would likely override the “woke”motive, IMO.

That said, in their calculus, I admit they may in their Leftist brains think being “woke” sells more tickets and brings in more fans, but reality does not support that, as NFL viewership shows.

They would have done better to keep politics out of it completely both at the league and individual franchise level, and if they had done so, viewership and profits associated with that would likely have skyrocketed during this pandemic BS where people were hungry for things to watch.

But, Leftists are not known for efficiently running anything where there is competition (which explains FaceBook, Twitter, and Google profitability...there IS no real competition yet, though some does now exist at some level) and that is because any time Leftist motives come into conflict with the principles of free market competition, free market competition loses, and so does the company.

However, I do admit that it is possible that “wokeness” is becoming so endemic, that in industry and service, it has less of an impact.

After all, if you refuse to patronize one company because of their Leftist agenda, and you turn to an alternative, it now turns out that all alternatives are kneeling at that altar of wokeness.

If the crowd would stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance, that would be impressive. Standing to listen to an instrumental or (usually) poorly-done vocal shows compliance.

Professional sports is a form of corruption that should be eliminated. It does the national anthem no honor to be played at ballgames.
