President Joe Biden on Feb. 14 urged Congress to strengthen existing laws concerning gun ownership on the third anniversary of the mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida.
“The Parkland students and so many other young people across the country who have experienced gun violence are carrying forward the history of the American journey. It is a history written by young people in each generation who challenged prevailing dogma to demand a simple truth: we can do better. And we will,” Biden said in a statement.
“This Administration will not wait for the next mass shooting to heed that call. We will take action to end our epidemic of gun violence and make our schools and communities safer. Today, I am calling on Congress to enact commonsense gun law reforms, including requiring background checks on all gun sales, banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and eliminating immunity for gun manufacturers who knowingly put weapons of war on our streets.”
In the afternoon of Feb. 14, 2018, a man identified by authorities as Nikolas Cruz, now 22, walked into Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland and opened fire with an AR-15 rifle. The shooting left 17 dead, including 14 students. Cruz, who is currently awaiting trial, could face the death penalty.
After the shooting, a number of Parkland students and parents began agitating for stricter gun control laws, arguing that Cruz shouldn’t have been able to obtain a gun. But others pointed to failures by law enforcement, including safety officer Scot Peterson, who has pleaded not guilty to criminal charges for not entering the school building to confront Cruz, and urged restraint on new measures.

I think that’s probably a bit too optimistic. I would be surprised if something very similar to this doesn’t make it to the floor for a House vote. It’s probably less likely it passes because there are quite a few House Dems in tenuous positions. But, in the House, the Speaker has a considerable amount of influence in getting bills to the floor.
If it should pass the House, they probably can’t get 60 votes in the Senate. And/But, they did get 57 votes to convict, so they’re probably closer than anyone on our side would like to admit. IOW, I wouldn’t bet the farm on Collins, Romney and Sasse helping to stop this bill.
The Dems proved with Obamacare that they will spend political capital to get long term policies and laws enacted. Would they blow their majority to destroy the 2nd Amendment? Sure they would.
Dealing with democrats is like living without toilet paper.
Post Walter’s pic again, please. For some reason it did not show in your post.
You will note that Walter bears a STRICKING RESEMBLENCE to Sloe Joe!
According to the Democrats the whole constitution is merely a suggestion.
“If it should pass the House, they probably can’t get 60 votes in the Senate.”
The Dems have said they will do away with the Senate filibuster, and all bills will only require a majority vote to pass in the Senate.
This is about as dumb as raising taxes during the Great Depression....I don’t care what they do, I’m not complying to illegal and unconstitutional laws.
Appropriately named after a foreigner from Pakistan.
But don’t they need 60 votes to do away with the filibuster?
2A bump for later....
we do not know what it’s like to lose our freedoms and our comfortable life. it’s backwards. but if all those thousands still had their jobs.. and all the rest that takes our comfort had not happened.. wed be okay.
but take a man’s job so he can’t pay for food and watch him react. . it seems to me we REACT we don’t stop the storm... we don’t pounce..we tend to disbelieve.until its in our lap and our family is in need.
this year help was available and we watched as they destroyed lives by burning and is no more
Keep the schools closed and you won’t need gun control. Problem solved!“
I wonder how possibly multiple years of decreased indoctrination (closed schools) could result in more creative independent and civil children.
We’ll have to see what happens when the time comes, but Manchin and Sinema (in particular) have said that the filibuster isn’t going anywhere. Sinema’s people didn’t equivocate saying that she wouldn’t even entertain arguments to end the filibuster.
Remember exactly WHO runs the Police Department in Washington, DC or any of the other Big (Third World) Cities. It’s sure as HELL not Oathkeepers.
It would be nice for the Supreme Court to codify that since some Bolshevik states will slap a felony on you for carrying with the wrong state permit.
We might have better luck with Diana Ross and her gals. Oh, Mary Wilson just passed so........... The Supremes...
and a wall...which we were told did not stop people.
I would NEVER bet a dime on that one...
