Hofmann’s use of a salamander drew upon legends about certain animals having supernatural powers. Hofmann may have been inspired by an early anti-Mormon work Mormonism Unvailed (1834), which claimed that a toad-like animal was rumored to have appeared to Smith in conjunction with the recovery of the plates.

Earlier tonight I had the pleasure of seeing my brother praising Mitt Romney “for his courage” on Mitt’s facebook page.

I commented that it takes no courage at all to do what the Democrats and the media will applaud you for doing, especially when it’s what you want to do anyway.

He unfriended me.

So that’s two brothers I’ve lost to this insanity.
