Two senior Boeing executives have warned the White House that requiring COVID-19 tests before traveling on U.S. domestic passenger airline flights could pose significant economic harm.
“Imposing such a burden on the already financially beleaguered airline industry has the potential for severe unintended consequences that will ripple across the entire economy,” Boeing Commercial Airplanes Chief Executive Stan Deal and Chief Aerospace Safety Officer Michael Delaney wrote in a letter. The letter, seen by Reuters, was sent Friday and had not previously been reported.
Boeing and the White House declined to comment on the letter.
The federal government has been mulling additional measures to fight the spread of the coronavirus but has made no decisions on adding new requirements on domestic air travel.
A senior Centers for Disease Control and Prevention official (CDC) said on Jan. 26 that officials were “actively looking” at mandatory testing - days after new mandatory testing requirements for most international passengers took effect.

Gosh. I’m not real smart about finance stuff; but most of the small business people in my area who have lost their jobs or whose businesses are in peril never even fly on airplanes.
Is anybody in this new ‘administration’ caring about the little guys - besides just arbitrarily ending their jobs by nonsensical EO???
A while ago, we had a President who CREATED REAL JOBS.
He didn’t deal in ‘pie-in-the-sky’. President Trump knew what he was doing.
Will the airlines have to bear the financial cost of themselves performing the Covid tests? Or will they be required merely to check that the passengers have their inoculation papers?
I suppose that just the latter (i.e., requiring the airlines to check), alone, would also entail substantial revenue losses on the part of the airlines, insofar as significant numbers of potential passengers would simply say "F*ck it" and forego flying all together rather than go to the bother of getting immunized.

Boeing is an extremely ‘woke’ company, but they are right on this. Boeing is also suffering greatly from the civilian downturn in aviation.
How can people ‘fly’ when they’re afraid about the future of their livelihoods?
Everyone is hunkered-down, protecting themselves; while the new administration seems to be doing everything it can to destroy our economy.

My advice to Boeing Execs; get in line for a solar panel assembly job before the pipeline/oil field guys beat you to it. And hope that $15 minimum wage gets passed because that’s where factory assembly jobs start.

Okay then, we need mandatory testing before a person gets on a subway train or any other mode of public transport. Mandatory testing for domestic flights will be devastating to the industry.
Just last week one of our Spanish airlines was offering €14.99 flights to destinations across Spain and Europe. A €14.99 flight is a good deal. A €314.99 flight to the same city because of Covid testing rules isn’t. Needless to say we passed on the offer. Boeing is right, mandatory Covid testing is killing the airlines.
Indeed. No one in this family will fly anywhere with such an edict in place. We own both automobiles and RV’s. We have no intention to travel outside the USA under the current circumstances. And, the delicious irony is, those airline corporations all supported dems and RINO’s against President Trump. President Trump, the only man on their side in this Wuhan Virus debacle. They allowed their Liberal Politics to guide their companies to their industries detriment.

All the corporations and the Wall Street backed Joe Biden big time in the election. Normally they were for the Republican Party but Trump took away their supply of cheap labor so you know they cannot allow that to stand.
We are going to Hawaii later this week and have to pay $150 per person for a COVID Test to gain entry to Hawaii. This regulation was imposed by the State of Hawaii, but I could see the feds mandating it under Xi Biden. For a family of 4 the COVID test was $600 and without frequent flyer tickets I doubt we would have booked the trip. Biden and company are purposefully trying to kill this economy.
I am not flying anywhere if I have to wear a mask.
