A Michigan couple tied balloons to the mailbox and set out a chalkboard with a hand-drawn sign announcing their baby shower on Saturday. To mark the occasion, the expectant parents in Gaines Township, Mich., fired a celebratory cannon as the small party stood outside in the snow in the backyard.

One of my neighbors, about a month ago, came out to her back yard only to find her pool saturated with some kind of blue tissue paper - she said it stained the plaster and had turned the water to some kind of mush. She found out it was from some moron firing a cannon for “gender reveal” party and all the tissue paper seemed to have fallen in her pool.
She said it was massively expensive to clean out, it got into the filter, etc.
Don’t know how it played out, she won’t talk about it...
Another possibility is the use of smokeless powder.
That is also a possibility I hadn’t thought of. Too powerful and too many times..............

Having said that, very sad someone lost their life.
If the party store rented this cannon for the shower there’s going to be one less party store in existence soon.
How much tissue paper would have to be in the pool to create that much damage... Doesn’t sound like the tissue paper came from a gender reveal cannon...
Local yacht club here in philly shot a cannon off the back of the committee boat and the end of each race. 3 nights a week. multiple races each night.
At least it celebrates the life of the unborn and bears witness to the fact that this miracle is a human. I wonder if pro-aborts have "gender reveal" parties? No doubt. Logical consistency isn't their strong point.
Such cannons were offered for sale years ago by places such as Dixie Gun Works. They were intended for black powder use only. As with any black powder replica gun, only black powder can be used. Using modern smokeless will cause the firearm to explode.
I suspect the idiots in question used the wrong powder, and too much of it.
My shooting experience with black powder is you cannot overcharge a weapon. Excess powder simply blows out the muzzle before it burns as it burns too slow, which is why it’s safe.
I considered that, what with the difficulty in obtaining any kind of gunpowder these days.
Someone needs to explain to me how these gender reveal parties work. I thought there were 57 different types of genders. And nobody really knows what gender a person might be until later in life when that person decides that they might be a cis/trans/bi/whatever/it type person.
Why aren’t the alphabet people highly offended that parents declare an unborn child to be a boy or a girl?
Would ice in the barrel or the temperature be a possible factor? I seem to recall, from my childhood history lessons, that firing cannon when it was too cold was a bad idea. Just curious.
