China and Russia have blocked the UN from condemning the ongoing military coup in Myanmar.
The 15-member UN Security Council met on Tuesday to vote on a joint statement after Myanmar military chief Min Aung Hlaing on Monday seized control of the country, detaining hundreds of lawmakers including President Win Myint and the de facto head of government Aung San Suu Kyi.
The coup followed the November 2020 election that the military claims was fraudulent, with the military imposing a year-long state of emergency.
The Myanmar police, which operates under the military, charged Suu Kyi with breaching import laws and using illegal communication devices - walkie-talkies - on Wednesday, the BBC reported. The police also charged Win Myint with violating COVID-19 rules, per the BBC.

A cabinet reshuffle.....with troops.
So what? Do we want to go to war with them? I sure as hell don’t want to waste our military on crap like this! Let them take care of their own business.
This has been going on back and forth in Burma (Myanmar) for centuries. What makes it any of our business?
Good for them!
Since we’ve now ‘rejoined the world community’, I guess that means that we stand with the United Nations Security Council in supporting (or at least not condemning) the coup in Burma.
That is, unless Biden is like Trump and thinks he can just go it alone in the world.
A news worthy point is that the Elections were run by SmartMatic on Dominion machines.
Dominion has fact-checked this point and found it to be untrue.
The media has backed off.
Once again, the UN demonstrating its uselessness.
Good, screw the UN.
Those who believe that Russia will one day join the circle of Western nations, or at least pay lip service to Western Civilization, are bound to be disappointed. Russia is an oriental despotism, and will remain so. Russia and Europe don’t belong together. Russia and China are a natural.
The Mongol conquest bequeathed Russia with two things a belief the superiority of despotism & a hatred & fear of things Asian (Chinese). Therefore I don’t see any long term alliance as possible.
IMO Trump realized this and ran on it, but unfortunately, under pressure gave in to the elites that Russia involved themselves in our election. Big blunder and one promise that Trump didn't keep when he once touted Putin.
Meanwhile we are headed for the dumpster and Russia is rolling along despite the crazy global world around them.
Russia is certainly not rolling along. Its economy is in the dumptster. Check khazakstan, and the Persian Gulf and Egypt for the large number of highly educated Russians seeking a home somewhere else. Its major export is natural gas and mercenaries. Its population is compressing. Its not the sort of data that points to a rosy future.
Many say that Russia was the major reason the Nazis were defeated.
Russia with their Air Force support saved Syria, routed the brotherhood, which contributed to the elimination of the caliphate.
Russia is a major player against globalization as we should be.
I think Trump was seeking an alignment of interests but the elites won the day. Too bad, but it won’t change until the systemic hate of Russian ends.
To constantly berate them is not in our interests.
