San Francisco has now lined up a death blow to Lowell. Several commissioners announced that the school is a center of “ongoing, pervasive, systemic racism.” Why? Because relatively few minorities qualify for Lowell; “Black, Latinx, and Samoan Pacific Islander students” don’t feel “physically, emotionally or culturally safe and valued at Lowell;” there were “microaggressions;” and Ibram X. Kendi says that anything that shows that non-Whites and non-Asians don’t do as well academically is inherently racist.

For those, and other race hustler reasons, the Commissioners resolved that Lowell should become a regular high school with a lottery admission beginning in the Fall of 2021. Oh, and it will also be subject to a Maoist struggle session review “to address the exclusion and ongoing toxic racist abuse that students of color, specifically Black students, have experienced at Lowell High School since the school’s creation.”

Lowell is such an integral part of old San Francisco pride that even the editorial board of the hard left San Francisco Chronicle was moved to protest, worried that the lottery “threatens to erode the school’s ability to maintain its level of academic excellence…” Ya think?

Parents who can afford it will move their high performing students to a merit based private school. Money we spent for a quality education. Nothing destroys the quality of education like political correctness substituted for academic merit.

Classrooms often run at the speed of the slowest student in the room. The public schools are full of low performers that drag down the performance for everyone.

The public schools were failing my middle son. I supplemented his education at home. He finished with a 4.33 GPA. His girlfriend finished with a 4.85 GPA and was class valedictorian. His high achieving girlfriends (more than one) were also a strong motivation to work hard.

My wife’s brother graduated from Lowell. In addition to high academic standards, also had a very strong ROTC program. Her brother (Chinese-American) led the squad in parade drills at graduation. This was back in the late 1980s, I don’t know if they still allow rifles and drill practice.

These SF’ers think they are such pioneers. But, DeBlasio beat them to it by limiting merit admissions for the top NYC schools, including the famous Bronx High School of Science. He’s the “pioneer” here, if anyone is.

Racial set asides won’t help in the AP Calculus class, and rejection from advanced classes is systemic racism, so everyone gets dumbed down.

I graduated from Lowell HS. My parents could never have afforded to send me to a private school. There’s no end to the hatred these libs have for certain kinds of people, or anything they can’t control.

The education I received there prepared me well for a top-tier university and a well-paying career. That opportunity for students today is about to be destroyed...

“t was renamed after Lowell, Massachusetts. “

Named after James Russell Lowell, the poet. Nobody names anything after Lowell, Mass, a factory town.
