~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida

FLtyndallafb3

Tyndall Air Force Base is a United States Air Force Base located 12 miles east of Panama City, Florida. The base was named in honor of World War I pilot 1st Lt. Frank Benjamin Tyndall. The base operating unit and host wing is the 325th Fighter Wing (325 FW) of the Air Combat Command (ACC). In October 2018, Hurricane Michael caused catastrophic damage to the base.

The 325th Fighter Wing’s primary mission is to provide a combat ready air dominance force, train F-22A Raptor pilots and maintenance personnel, and train air battle managers to support the combat Air Force. Tyndall's combat mission is performed by the 95th Fighter Squadron. Training for F-22 pilots is performed in the 43d Fighter Squadron and the 2d Fighter Training Squadron.

The 325th Air Control Squadron trains air battle managers for assignment to combat Air Force units. Additionally, wing personnel manage the southeastern air combat maneuvering instrumentation range and provide mission-ready F-15, F-16, and F-22 air dominance forces in support of the Commander, North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the Commander, First Air Force (1 AF) / Air Forces Northern (AFNORTH) contingency plans.

The 95th FS, proudly nicknamed the "Boneheads," activated in early 1942 flying the original twin-tailed fighter, the P-38 Lightning, supporting the Allied invasions of North Africa and Italy. The squadron performed amazing aerial combat and support, winning two Distinguished Unit Citations during attacks on the Italian peninsula.

Today, the Boneheads continued to provide air superiority training in the F-15 at Tyndall. The force structure of the Combat Air Forces changed as Air Force leadership was faced with the demands of a Global War on Terrorism and a shrinking Air Force budget. With the F-15 fleet aging rapidly, the Air Force decided to retire almost all F-15 A-D models and close the F-15 training units.

Thus, the 95th FS inactivated on Sept. 21, 2010. The Boneheads glorious heritage and overwhelming local support made it the perfect selection for the new operational F-22 squadron at Tyndall, Florida.

I’m VERY glad to be in this house at last. This kind of weather made it very uncomfortable in the old house. The biggest problem here is cats sleeping on the vents, blocking the heat. LOL!

Is Reed still posting his stuff on Periscope or has he gone ahead and moved over to YT? I tried watching one of his videos on Periscope a while back and do not like that site.
I imagine Gatlinburg got a good dose of snow from this storm, as far north as they are.

Well, my coffee maker went down this morning and I had to order a new one. It should arrive tomorrow.

Gizmo and I had a great visit to the lake yesterday. Here is a head shot I took of him.

Nice weather yesterday.

Gizmo just loves those rocks.

He found a dirty spot to roll over.

My shadow in this picture.

The rest of the pictures:

I have to go to the doctor later this morning to do a blood draw for my appointment with him next week. We plan to do Chisolm Trail Park later today.

He has live streams at times on FB, but I thought I watched the one today on YT. But I can’t remember for sure. I’ve watched so many videos today. LOL!

Egads! No coffee????? That’s a rough way to start the day.

Rocks and a dirty spot for rolling. The only thing that might have made the day better would be finding a critter hole to dig into. LOL

Ugh on the blood draw but it’s one of those things we have to do from time to time. At least you have something to look forward to afterwards. You and Giz have fun at Chisolm Trail Park.

I definitely won’t see anything he posts at FB. That’s why he’s not a storm chaser I follow.

Nothing in his YT channel from today so you must have seen it at FB.

I guess it is. He’s good. But so are Brett and the others on Live Storm Chasing.

Think it’s time to head out. I’m getting there, but still haven’t the stamina I did in December. LOL!

Yep, the Live Storm Chasing crew are good and they’re a large group. Brett and Brandon have been up north covering the storm. I am SO glad we didn’t get that mess!

You’re doing mighty good these days at being a night owl again. LOL This is about the time you normally call it a night. Glad you’re getting your stuffing back after it was knocked out so hard.

Sleep well.
