Rep. Liz Cheney, under fire from former President Donald Trump and his staunchest defenders, is picking up support from some influential Republicans as her allies close ranks and resist the effort to oust her from the third-ranking spot in House GOP leadership.

On Monday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was the latest Republican to give her a boost, saying in a statement to CNN that she had "the courage" to act on her convictions in the aftermath of her vote to impeach Trump last month on a charge he incited the deadly insurrection that ransacked Capitol Hill on January 6.

"Liz Cheney is a leader with deep convictions and the courage to act on them," McConnell said. "She is an important leader in our party and in our nation. I am grateful for her service and look forward to continuing to work with her on the crucial issues facing our nation."

Wyoming law stipulates that parties conduct open primaries for congressional and state-level offices. While a voter must be affiliated with a political party in order to participate in its primary election, any voter, regardless of previous partisan affiliation, may change his or her affiliation on the day of the primary.

That pick of McCain! I swear the most angry I’ve ever seen him and it looked like that was when he was discussing Pat Robertson when he was running for president. The man had some serious screws lose in his hatred for Christians at that moment.

Actually it appears she has spent a fair bit of time in Wyoming over several decades. From Liz Cheney Wikipedia:
Cheney attended part of sixth and seventh grade in Casper, Wyoming, while her father campaigned for Congress. The family split time between Casper and Washington, D.C., in the 1970s through the 1980s following her father’s election to Congress.[1] Liz Cheney is married to Philip Perry, a partner at the law firm of Latham & Watkins in Washington, D.C. They were married in Wyoming in 1993. She and Perry have five children.[24]
On July 16, 2013, Cheney announced that she would run for the Senate in 2014 from the state of Wyoming as a Republican, challenging the incumbent Republican senator Mike Enzi.[49] The National Republican Senatorial Committee said it would back Enzi, as was policy.[50] Cheney was expected to receive strong fundraising, but faced concerns about the fact she moved to Wyoming in fall 2012.[51] In the video announcing her candidacy, she noted that the Cheney family first came to Wyoming in 1852.[51] Her father served Wyoming in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979 to 1989.[51] On July 16, 2013, Cheney announced that she would run for the Senate in 2014 from the state of Wyoming as a Republican, challenging the incumbent Republican senator Mike Enzi.[49] The National Republican Senatorial Committee said it would back Enzi, as was policy.[50] Cheney was expected to receive strong fundraising, but faced concerns about the fact she moved to Wyoming in fall 2012.[51] In the video announcing her candidacy, she noted that the Cheney family first came to Wyoming in 1852.[51] Her father served Wyoming in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979 to 1989.[51] Cheney’s campaign was marred by criticism from her championing of hawkish foreign policy positions to a public spat with her sister Mary over her vocal opposition to same-sex marriage. Enzi’s continuing popularity made it difficult for Cheney to make inroads with Wyoming Republican voters. On January 6, 2014, Cheney announced she had withdrawn from the race, citing family health issues.[24][54]
2016
After incumbent Cynthia Lummis announced her retirement in the Fall of 2015, Cheney announced she was considering running for her seat in 2016. It is the same seat her father occupied for ten years. On February 1, 2016, Cheney announced her candidacy for Wyoming’s lone seat in the House. She was widely considered the frontrunner for the seat, and a poll commissioned by the Casper Star-Tribune and Wyoming PBS showed her leading in the Republican primary–the real contest in this heavily Republican state.[55] Oil tycoon Simon Kukes contributed to her campaign.[56] She was elected with over 60% of the vote in the general election.
2018
In the November 6 general election, Cheney was re-elected as Wyoming’s sole member of the House of Representatives. She won 127,951 votes, defeating Democrat Greg Hunter (59,898 votes), Libertarian Richard Brubaker (6,918) and Constitution Party candidate Daniel Clyde Cummings (6,069). Cheney won 21 of 23 counties, losing Albany and Teton Counties to Greg Hunter. On November 14, Cheney was elected by the Republican membership as the Chair of the House Republican Conference for the 116th Congress. In this post, she is the third-ranking Republican in the chamber, behind Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Minority Whip Steve Scalise.[57] She is also the highest-ranking Republican woman in Congress.
2020
Cheney defeated Blake Stanley in the Republican primary with 73% of the vote, and Democrat Lynnette Grey Bull in the general election with 69% of the vote.[58]

It looks like support for her is fairly strong in Wyoming, and a long history of spending some time there over many years.

Our family had a run in with the behind the scenes actions that affected a lot of people during the McCarthy era. During the later 1940’s my father was fighting hard to keep the Communists from capturing his union of Insurance Workers. He was also on the New York Port Council of labor unions. Communists were attempting to control workers in the important NY shipping industry. They had some success on the West Coast with Gus Hall. Commies took a payment from a major insurance company and used the money to divide the membership of my father’s union which split into two unions and lost much effectiveness. In the 1950’s our neighbor, a policemen, told us he had avoided friendship because we were on some subversive list, but after talking with my father the policeman realized his sympathies were very anti Communist.

Many young people joined questionable organizations with high minded sounding names, only to discover what they really were trying to do and then dropped membership. McCarthy used such lapsed membership as “proof” that many people were subversive and should be blacklisted for employment.

McCarthy was dead on target.

Look at the place today.

As much as I may feel uncomfortable with McCarthy doing some
of the things he did, we’re in seriously bad shape right now.

The Left for all it’s complaining about McCarthy, wants to
far beyond McCarthy’s tactics now.

The so-called, self described “conservative” rag, National Review is also all a titter over Cheney...this month’s issue is just gushing about how principled she is and the Republican party, according to NR, needs more like her.

Nope. The media will make sure that The people will never see through this. Most of the people will agree with the media. Getting rid of President Trump was worth having to pay $20.00 for a gallon of gasoline. They don't own a car anyway. They ride the City bus or a taxi cab or uber. They won't mind their electricity bills being $1,000.00 a month. Or their supermarket being out food or a can of Vena Sausage costing $5.00. Or a Big Mac costing $ 15.00. Or when they become ill that they will not be able to see a doctor for at least 2 years because all medical service is free. Or being out of work because the Government supports you. Until they don't. At least they got rid if President Trump. Guess which group the Government will stop supporting first?

Americans love the under dog and those who’ve been wrongly accused.

This impeachment is a travesty.

Terrible.
